Have a number of interviews coming up for other jobs how do you go about getting time off for them?

I don't think you can ask your dom for time off to get an interview for a job elsewhere!

If it were me, I'd try to arrange any interview to be outside of work hours - shouldn't be impossible to do, with the hours that posties normally work. If you make it clear to them the reason for requiring 'after hours' interviews, they would hopefully be understanding to the circumstances.

my DOM would go out of his way to help me go elsewhere, anywhere
hell, he wouldn't just swap my day off; he'd pay me to go ..
... but i'm happy being the bane of his life

Yes serious and why would rm stop me from looking for another job?

I,m sure there are legal requirements regarding employers and employees when it comes to getting emplyment elsewhere in the same way a manager couldn't give you a bad reference to stop you getting a job.

you are paid to work the hours stipulated in your contract, if you are looking for another job and therefore going to interviews you will need to do this outside of your contracted work hours.

RM won't stop you looking for a new job, but why should they penalize themselves and your workmates because you want a few hours off here and there.

you can ask to swap your day(s) off for the job interviews if your Dom will allow you to.

a manager cannot give you a bad reference, they can however refuse to give you a reference at all. all a reference needs to say is you worked for RM from date A to date B and thats it.
which in an employers mind will look like a bad reference.

You only have a statutory right to time off work for recruitment interviews if you are going to be made redundant.

Also it's a fallacy that managers can't give bad references, they can if the information they give is accurate and not misleading.
