Post person with driving question

Here are a few questions that I am interested in since I will hopefully (soon) start a new job as a post person with driving.(part time, permanent).

1/ do I get paid weekly? How much roughly?

2/ do you require a Tom Tom for the routes?

3/ do you stick to a certain route or otherwise?

4/what other roles do post person with driving have?

yes you get paid the week you are working, pay depends on how many hours you do. Roughly £11ish an hour

you will be given a map etc WHEN you are ready to go out on your own.

you will get trained up on a walk and then ( hopefully ) left on that walk for a few weeks until you get a proper grasp of the job.

you deliver mail, either by using a van, sharing a van or using an High Capacity Trolley ( or you could be put on a packet duty delivering packets / parcels to your postcode area(s))

U won't start on £11 an hour it will go up to that after a year. Not sure what basic is for new starters now but must be around £9 an hour or so

Assuming you're not in london where there is a higher pay rate and that you are aged over 18:

from start = £9.36/hr

after first 6 months = £9.89/hr

after 12 months = £10.40/hr


The figure of £11/hr comes because there is also a delivery supplement to be added on if you work in a delivery office. This is a fixed 60.5p/hr on top, up to a maximum of 39 hrs.

1/ do I get paid weekly? How much roughly? Yes. Approx 260 quid week take-home for 30hrs.

2/ do you require a Tom Tom for the routes? lol No. Your passenger will show you where to go and you will drive around and deliver together.

3/ do you stick to a certain route or otherwise? Yes same route everyday unless you are spare and you might be moved every few days or if you are holiday cover new route each week.

4/what other roles do post person with driving have? 3hrs indoors work in the morning sorting mail and packets then 4hrs delivering with your partner. Essentially you will park up and deliver separately in a loop meeting your partner back at the van before driving along a few streets to do the same. On some rounds the drivers loop will be shorter and you will drive round delivering large items as your partner finishes his/her loop.

Be aware you might be put on a high-capacity trolley round which means working independently from a large trolley. The driving bit in the job description doesn't mean you will definitely be driving but they want to have that option with you. So in our office of approx 100 staff about 25 do trolley deliveries.
