Our Corporate Responsibility report for 2014-15 has been published. One of the aspects it focuses on is you – our people.
We are a people business, and our colleagues are fundamental to our ability to achieve our strategic priorities. It is their active support and engagement that will ensure we continue to grow our parcels business, manage the decline in letters and build a culture around delivering for our customers.
Investing in our people
We are fully committed to the training and development of our people.
We invested more than £24.8 million in training during the year.
During 2014-15, almost 54,000 colleagues attended instructor-led training in the UK, with more than 40,500 attending web-based training sessions.
Our people strategy is focussed on ensuring:
We create a customer-focused culture with the right mix of people
Our people are safe, engaged, respected, treated fairly and feel valued
We continue to invest in people and provide opportunities for all
Our colleagues are fairly rewarded within a stable industrial relations climate
Did you know?
We have more than 160,000 employees across the Group
The vast majority of our UK employees are now Royal Mail shareholders with a tangible stake in the future of our business
74% of our UK employees say they would like to be with Royal Mail Group in two years’ time

MRM:Our future success depends upon our people
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I bet the majority won't be Royal Mail shareholders when the 3/5 years are up!!

Or put another way. Over a quarter of our workforce 40,000 employees would rather be somewhere else.

74% say they would like to be with Royal Mail in two years.
What that means is it is preferable to being on jobseekers. I'd like to be with them in 10 years but only as it gets a damn lot harder to get another job these days, especially when you have done a while.

"We are fully committed to the training and development of our people"
This statement annoys me because it is simply not true. Ive seen some guys become managers within 2 years of joining the Royal Mail - and then you find that they are a friend of one of the managers or something. Whereas I know of one guy who has been to catering college and got his qualifications yet there is no training for him to be a head chef because our canteen have stopped making breakfast!! All we got is a vending machine that supplies watered down coffee and chicken soup - and i hate chicken soup!!
The other thing is that we now have a bigger fleet of vans due to shared duties (whereas we used to drive our own vehicles on delivery before) so why is there no training/apprenticeship for a mechanic?? The stupid CWU are telling us all to do all our daily checks in the van like check oil and water, tyre pressure etc before we drive out - well considering how many vans there are in the yard, why is there not a vehicle maintenance guy onsite?? Do you know if you get a flat tyre whilst you are out on delivery and you inform your manager, if there is no spare, then they will quite happily waste money paying a sub-contracter to put a new tyre on. Ridiculous!! Anyway, It must be a bit pointless carrying a spare tyre under the van as we are not even trained to put them on.
Work place coaches?? Where the hell are they? Not seen many new staff start recently, but have seen plenty of full-timers leave. And if once a newbie has been trained up for the week, what else does the workplace coach do to collect his thirty odd quid extra per week?? Hmmmm
I wonder how many of you would fancy doing the very few indoor roles that we have in a DO like working in the callers office or handing out specials?? Who gets these duties and why are they on them all the time if training and development was so important for everyone?? I personally wouldn't mind training for the DOM support job. I keep badgering (selling the benefits of having me as DOM support) to the DOM himself and the lino about it; and they tend to jot out the usual job vacancy rubbish. And I keep telling them, Im not actually applying for the job.....I simply wouldn't mind some training on it. After all, someone must do it when they have week/s off??
Anyway, whinge over. Im not going to email moya just yet about my unquestionable appetite and ambition to earn more dough and get bigger bonuses for doing bum all other than taking a bit of flack off a few war weary posties......not until the rounds get too big that is......

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If our future success depends on our people why don't we employ some more? We are desperately short in our DO and apparently the recruitment freeze will last until October.
