union advice needed
we had a revision in our office must have been at least 18 months ago,or even longer cannot think of exact date of the top of my head,8 of our staff were made up to full time PERMANENT,we have just heard that these 8 staff can be given 28 days notice and be put back down to part time,thoughts please surely these staff cannot go back down to part time the dom asked them all to sigh something THEY ALL REFUSED.

I have since found out all these staff were made permanent full time in august 2012 ,nearly 3 years ago ?

If the Full Time Contract said permanent then according to the BT2010 agreement unless they volunteer they can't have their hours reduced. If it said Temporary, then within certain constraints then yes they can reduce them, what those constraints are and if they are applicable I am not sure, but an ADR or someone trained in Employment Law may be able to advise.

Putting it simply yes the dom can actually do that, he could even lay them off completely.
However that's just putting it in as simple a form as possible to do any of those he needs to jump through lots of hoops and it would be a very very difficult thing for him to do. Legally he can, but Royal Mail have a no compulsory redundancies policy etc and various agreements with the union MTSF etc that affect these things so he can't simply do those things, if he suggests it ask for it in writing then get the rep to lodge a stage 1 disagreement over it and follow the ir process I bet it wouldn't even get passed the stage 1
