Clock Suckers ?

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

SHould we start calling runners, door steppers, signing posties, early starters, hedge hoppers and small baggers all what they really are:

Now I know people will claim that what they are doing is okay and its the best way (small baggers mostly) but all you are really doing is sucking time so that you do more in less time. Sorry if this offends its not meant to its just designed to start a discussion.

Its the epitomy of the ragged trousered philanthropists

By the method of working..ie running etc and alienating the sensible folk who use the correct methods they are trying to make the folk that work correctly seem "odd" \old fashioned etc.

:mad

Spot on, deliver your mail and packets as you see fit and if a lino is not happy ask him to get it timed. Eventually linos are going to have to give your extra lapsing to those who are finishing 1 or 2 hours early rather than you booking O/T for it.

These "clock suckers" are just weak human beings that are too afraid to stand up to the bullying management and cut off. :cuppa

Isn't that why they pay their union fees?
Isn't a union supposed to protect the "weak"?

Unions only work if the members are cohesive

No unit works if there no cohesion

Define 'Irony'

I claim 1 hour overtime for taking out the lapse on Wednesday because it takes me an hour past my scheduled finish time; but find that I am only paid for 20 minutes because I have finished earlier on Monday and Tuesday. Seems fair enough on paper.

However, there are a few guys in our office that finish at least 2 hours before their time everyday. They manage to do this because they come in early and treat the job like they are running for the next London Marathon. And often, they are relied upon to take out lapse deliveries that staff cannot manage and get paid an hour a loop. But if those guys are claiming an extra hour to do someone's lapse loop and still finishes BEFORE their time everyday - why are they not being penalised like I am?? How can it be classed as overtime when they have not actually gone "over their time!!"

Im not actually against anyone in Royal Mail who works hard for their money though. If they want to come in early, if they want to run, if they want to cram 25kg bags worth of mail/packets on the shoulder. Its their choice. I have my choice - and i don't do any of those things! Let them run, its the old tortoise and hare, as they will never manage to do it future. Because by then, they won't feel like running when the rounds are that big.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

As I understand it, each day is entirely different from the previous. If the work wasn't there ,it is hardly your fault,if you go over by an hour on Wednesday, then so be it,they should pay you for the hour.

our office would collapse like a stacked penny-push without overtime, the union fully endorsed/encouraged "fill your boots"
i like to grab when i need the extra to pay for stuff, and in no way do i resent anyone the chance of extra wages.
but now we've got people coming in at 4/5am who haven't done overtime for years, management prepping duties up,
the way it goes here is that some are paid 2 to 3 hours overtime spending a large proportion of that sorting their own duties out,
quite a few are not that far off ready to tie up when i start, 3 days out of 4 this week the pair next to me were doing their households.
those who start to time are still left with loads of ips to do or very little prepped for p/t'ers
then the rest get grief for not taking "the even more lapsed bits" because others have :arrrghhh

whatever happened to the "ALL on sorting until it all finished" procedure, that way everyone pulls together to get on their frames asap

Thats how I understand it as well rubberbond, or used to....

Our new DOM looks at our signing out times and often takes away some overtime that we claimed if we finish before our time on another day. He calls it being flexible!! Is this legal? I thought that if you had finished before your time then the manager had to find you work that takes you up to your time. If he didn't have any work for you, then its his loss?

Now, if I get back to the office early, I do other things like prepping door to doors just so I sign out at the scheduled time. But I do feel that there are a lot of double standards operating at our depot because of the lapsing. For example, if we don't take out our lapsed loops then they have to pay someone for doing them an hour per loop. So we said, we will do them, if they pay us an extra hour per loop - only to be told that we shouldn't get paid that because the lapse is designed to take us up to our time. So we only get paid for the amount of time that the lapse takes us past our time - and then this prat for a DOM takes some of it off us!!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

that's how it should be if you manage to get back early,

its a double edged sword,
trouble is loads of folk go straight home, then cut off/no lapse the next day because of no time to do households, that 15/30 mins should be docked for me or be made to return to office all the time.
then i'd pull the "well if i must be back at" then the few days i go over 5/10 mins you can kiss my hairy arse :left:

a while ago i'd go the extra mile whenever possible, but management peoplee skill today are woeful
morale is at an all time low for me, in fact its that low i need a ladder the size of a skyscraper
