What on earth has happened to the CWU,s findings on there 18 month study into fatigue on delivery.
Reason I ask is all delivery persons in our office are Knackered and worn out.
Talk is afoot in our office in as a collective all pulling our union subs due to total disillusionment at present with the CWU thats a total of 60+ members.

Re: Fatigue on delivery
Fatigue on delivery is knacker's get lots of people. Hence the mass exodus of us oldies.
You can imagine the findings will be along the lines of :
make sure you take your meal reliefs at the right time,
Don't run around,
Take plenty of water/ food etc,
I really can't see this business easing up on us.
We will all be sitting in front of medical boards in a few years time claiming for all sorts of ailments. A bit like the miners did, but that won't happen until the government decide to sell its stake in the business.
Please don't consider pulling away from the union, you will all NEED them in the future, if you think you are being shafted now then can you imagine what would happen if you left the union. Think very carefully before you leap.
Good luck

There needs to be more readily available access to physiotherapists in this job if you can treat the problem early on it could stop it becoming chronic.
We also need properly designed walking shoes fit for 7 mile walks daily.

Re: Fatigue on delivery
I've no idea why, but I was genuinely, completely knackered about 3 quarters the way around my massive rural delivery today. Just about struggled to the end, but I would love an explanation about how someone is gonna square the circle of outdoor spans constantly getting bigger at the same time as the retirement age going up.
I'm a pretty fit 40 odd old but I don't think I'll manage this job in 10 years,, must be loads in the same boat.

35 wayno, - I like you do not regard leaving the union as the best way forward, but and must repeat BUT ! OUR union needs to realise that the members are being shafted daily by managers that are being allowed to run riot within delivery. We are members of a large organisation and I personally cannot believe they allow this constant " hammering " on it's members, it is truly remarkable. I can see why the membership are so disillusioned and the CWU need to accept that problems exist - and fatigue is a major one - added to by intimidation and constant bullying, we need support and advice but more importantly BACKING from our leaders.

Re: Fatigue on delivery
But the simple fact is if you take your breaks and do a steady pace/work your time you wil feel better. My walking pace has always been hurried even before this job and it was only recently i decided to slow it down as my knees have been hurting.I have a reputation for being fast but now i intentionally slow it down.Thing is it has made little difference to delivery times i still manage to complete unless we are delayed leaving office. Also am wearing own trainers now and it has made a huge difference to my knees and feet, not even been asked for a doctors note yet.

A Postie on a bike is so twee. A bit like a community Bobby walking the beat. If I ever see either or both, it'll make me smile the rest of the day.
