25 hour contract, Overtime every week ..

Hello, I'm on a basic 25 hour contract .. But i've been doing around 18 hours overtime a week for the last 7 months. When I have holiday pay is there anyway this can be taken into consideration? or is it just a basic 25 hours contract pay no matter what, I heard of something called accrued pay ( could be completely wrong! ) thanks Jordan.

Ignore this guy, and for your information, we've had newish posties put up to full time recently.

You won't get paid it unless it's regular scheduled attendance I believe, which by the sounds of it this is not. It might change in the future as there was a case in European courts about it but that doesn't apply yet.

joke of a post, i have had lots of partimers increase their contract from 32 - 40 or 25-32 etc! its called like for like if somebody leaves! have you not heard of a duty builder or a tm1? i guess not!

Hi jordan. I'm in the same boat & its the 1 thing that annoys me in an otherwise great job. 25 hour contract but every week i do 39+ hours & have done so for over 2 years. The company must save a fortune when it comes 2 holiday pay, hence why they do it but its not a practice i agree with. Its very unfair on the employee. I know many part timers in my office who have been on a 25 hour contract for 8 years & have never been made up to full time despite people retiring, getting sacked & takin VR. It really winds me up!!!
Halfull, please tell us more about duty builders & tm1??

We have a good few part timers on 25hr contracts that have been working pretty much full time hours for over 2 years.

Problem is management just use the old 'operational needs' excuse as a reason not to offer full time contracts.

They could all get together and approach management as to why they haven't been offered Ft contracts, but won't as the threat is always there that they could just be dropped to their basic 25hrs per week and would then struggle.

We even have one part timer who has done a week at 5 hrs per day for 5 days, then the next week 3 days totaling 25hrs and has no idea what he's doing from one week to the next - which cannot be right.

Oh and our rep couldn't give a monkeys - probably because he was originally a part timer himself and has worked FT for years now (no idea if he has been made up tp FT or is still on PT contract). Loads his RM bike into the back of his shared van everyday and off he goes. HIs partner got back from delivery today at 2.40pm. He however was posting stuff on facebook from 1.30pm !

That's not quite true as they increased my hours from 18 to 39 permanent about 6 months ago.

I suppose it depends on whether or not you are expected to work overtime each week or whether you chose to do it over and above your normal duties.

Obviously different parts of the company have different ideas about this. I heard that if you work full time hours for 6 months regular, they will make you up to full time. However, in our office many people have been doing that, the management don't listen and the union don't help whatsoever despite the fact it is apparently an agreement!
