you are just a cheaper version of a line manager.
you get all the s**t jobs and your Dim gets to sit back even more.

Re: Work place coach role
you are not the first person to find this out, nor will you be the last.
I have posted on our FB page before about what will be expected of a WPC.
you have found out the hard way, it's not a WPC you are becoming, you are becoming the Dim's play thing, given all the sh1t jobs that he does not like to do.
we have just had one start at my DO, and he is also finding out it's not all roses in the garden, there is also a lot of Horse sh1t as well to wade through.
if you don't like how it is going, just quit the job and come back to being a grafter and not a shafter :)

Re: Work place coach role
When you say day to day running, what do you actually mean?
Your role as a wpc is clearly laid out in the following agreement
3.1 Role and Responsibility
There are a number of activities that coaches will be required to undertake;
With New entrants
· Ensure all new entrants receive their work area/pipeline familiarisation training In line with the agreed Workplace Induction
o Liaise with Managers, the local CWU via weekly resourcing meetings to plan in advance that walks/routes are made available for New Entrants for a period of 6 weeks wherever possible in line with section 3.5.
o Demonstrate to New Entrants what needs to be done on the job, with the New Entrant shadowing the coach if necessary.
o Help New Entrants to compile the Learning Record with the Manager to identify progress towards achieving competence in all standards. Monitor progress and address issues.
o Liaise with managers to enable them to complete trial documentation and assessment of competence of new entrants.
Making themselves available to New Entrants throughout their induction/trainingperiods so support can be given to ensure issues can be quickly addressed.
With Existing Employees
· To Coach and provide additional support to existing employees on an individual/group basis where problems are identified or help requested. (See WPC Delivery & Collection guide for the range of activities.)
· Provide refresher training where skills/knowledge gaps are identified.
· Deliver coaching as a result of new products and change programmes.
· Work closely with Managers and the local CWU to ensure that unit skills registers detail the training and re-training that has been given to employees.
· Coaches can assist to run WTLL sessions where there is a coaching requirement
· Liaise with Managers, the local CWU via weekly resourcing meetings to plan own release and the training requirements of existing employees. Supporting them to achieve the resourcing to workload requirements.
· Demonstrate all of the other aspects/operational tasks required in delivery & collection
· Provide advice and guidance to all employees to ensure work follows standard operating procedures.
· Undertake re–training for individuals where they have been away from the job or task for a period of time and job change training for employees who have transferred from other functions/shifts.
· Coaching short-term resource (i.e. casual/agency staff) where they are required to respond to fluctuating resourcing demands.
3.2 Roles not within their Responsibility
There are a number of activities that are not within the role and responsibility of the Coach:
Industrial Relations issues and anything linked to the IR Framework.
Issues relating to the attendance of employees - Attendance Procedure.
Issues relating to the conduct of employees - Conduct Code, including formal counselling.
Issues relating to the application of the procedure to address capability – NCI.
Training of any employee which requires legally accredited trainers to deliver the training.

Re: Work place coach role
you should not be doing any management work at all. A coach is there for positive reinforcement/new starter training/ equipment training & helping with wtl if needed to explain skills & new tasks etc. No management work at all.Scotland1 wrote:For our £36 a week, we r now expected to help in the day to day running of our delivery office, surely there must be some union agreement against this, anyone know any more on this'll ease help

Re: Work place coach role
Exactly how many times are you going to do the activities above to justify getting £36 per week on an on-going basis?Scotland1 wrote:I expected to train new people, train people in other things pda, redirection failures, one minute tests, ftd, etc not help manage an office
New entrants - hardly any!
Redirection failure - everyone makes mistake, what is there is to teach or coach except to tell the person to slow down and be more methodical
PDA - really!
One minute test - do you mean, you coach or conduct the one minute test yourself?
What is ftd?
Even your new and additional tasks will still not justify getting £36 per week because you will not likely be doing much.

Re: Work place coach role
As an opinion neither of those posts above Scotands are constructive.
Sometimes I despair of the mentality that because someone is different or thinks differently means they are worthy of abuse or name calling. We do really live down to our reputation as knuckled headed, bolshy unionised bullies don't we.
ChrisJ - FTD = First Time Delivery.
