Sue Whalley discusses advantages of the training programme

Our Together for Growth (TFG) programme has been designed with our unions to improve the way managers and union representatives work together, and support them in putting the Agenda for Growth into practice.

This week’s special RMtv is dedicated to our TFG programme.

Chief operations officer Sue Whalley says: ‘The programme aims to help us increase the pace of change within the operation and improve our ability to communicate with and engage with our people at all levels in the operation.’

Our research found:

83% of delegates attending felt TFG would enable them to improve their relationship with their manager/rep
84% who attended said TFG improved their ability to communicate effectively with their manager/rep
83% of attendees said they would recommend TFG to their colleagues
The TFG programme also focuses on providing support to managers and union reps so that the relationships are more collaborative and consistent, more likely to result in agreements and supportive of effective and efficient decision making.

We hear from those who’ve already taken part in the Together for Growth initiative

Yesterday we heard about the success of our Together for Growth (TFG) programme, which aims to improve the way managers and union representatives work together, and support them in putting the Agenda for Growth into practice.

Orla Flynn, East Midlands delivery director, and Steve Blower, Midlands division substitute rep, are colleagues who have already been through the programme. Here’s what they thought:

Orla says:‘The Agenda for Growth is all about us having the ability to work positively and quickly together. You can do things in a different way. Rather than pushing through, you can do things without being adversarial.’

Steve says: ‘It was coming from a different perspective and trying to improve relationships with each other. We’ve become more open and we’re trying to improve relationships at a local level.

‘Hopefully going forward other members will understand the need for change.’

Better relationships

The TFG programme encourages more collaborative relationships between managers and union reps. This approach is more likely to result in agreements.

Orla adds: ‘We can make quicker, better, more complete decisions, knowing that I’ve got Steve’s back and he’s got mine. That’s what Agenda for Growth is all about. It’s about being pacey and positive and being more proactive.’
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Wonder if they factored in the demise of Whistl? Instant growth in letter traffic in some offices. Thought not.
