New site has hints and tips for developing your career

This week we have launched My Future, our new career development site. Full of handy tips and guides, it’s designed to help you make the most of your time at Royal Mail.

It covers personal and career development, as well as opportunities to get involved in the community. For example, it will show you what it’s like to become a first aider, or a union rep. You’ll be able to hear from colleagues who have progressed their career within the business, as well as learn about opportunities available to you.

Royal Mail don't know what personal skills some postal workers have outside Royal Mail or previous job.

Buuuuuut.... you can only search and apply for current internal vacancies if you have access to a RM computer so actually they don't want the vast majority of employees to develop at all

and postal workers won't know what jobs are there to apply for apart from what happening in delivery office. I won't know what job are available to apply in mail centre or whatever.

I've asked my manager for first aid training, health and safety training and career development around 12-18 months ago all of which fell of deaf ears.

The management do less and less (except play on their pc/intranet all day) all roles are covered by dom support and excess rle and excess callers office staff. Not approachable at all.

Is that why I couldn't apply for an apprenticeship with RM last week? Was using the rmg I grasp system online and when I entered my NI number it wouldn't let me take my application any further. I've now missed the deadline

Could well be. I tried to log on using the computer while i was covering the callers office the other day.
As none of us have a log in the computer was, as always, logged in using the regular chap's log in and password (we'll call him Bob). I tried to log in to the recruitment site using my details but it still ended up logged in as Bob because technically he was logged on to the computer.

Not sure if this is just typical of the contempt that senior management show delivery staff. Do they think we're too thick and worthless to do anything else in the company? Obviously only a Manager who's been recruited straight from university with a fancy bit of paper can use a computer!
Or could the'y have simply forgotten that we (the vast majority of the workforce) don't use a work computer?

Which do we think is more likely?
