Hello, I suffered a fall while delivering last week and injured my leg, (badly sprain ankle, very painful) This got recorded down as a incident but as it happened while i was working how would the time off incurred for this injury affect my sickness record?
Thanks!

Re: Incident (fall)on delivery!
How is that an incident? That is an accident. This should have been recorded on the ERICA and ATOS also informed as they'd do an over the phone interview as well.
Have you been to see your doctor or been to the hospital, for treatment?
If you cannot go out on delivery with that injury ask for light duties in the office, if at all possible, assuming that is you've not been signed off work.
No doubt others on here will give you more, or better, advice than me.
If you're in the Union go see your rep and explain your position and see what he/she says about this.

This from the attendance agreement:
Absences relating to pregnancy and accidents
at work or disability may be discounted when
deciding if your attendance levels meet with
required standards.

Where was it recorded as an incident? It is YOUR decision to report it as an AOD and record it as such on ERICA by Mngtmailman3k15 wrote:Hello, I suffered a fall while delivering last week and injured my leg, (badly sprain ankle, very painful) This got recorded down as a incident but as it happened while i was working how would the time off incurred for this injury affect my sickness record?

Who diagnosed it as a badly sprained ankle? If hospital/doctor get it recorded as so on your return to work, AOD,s are NORMALLY discounted from the Attendance Procedure as already stated

Re: Incident (fall)on delivery!
I am assuming that you reported your fall to your line manager on your return to the office and requested that this be recorded in the accident book which cannot be refused and you gave a brief description on how you managed to fall for eg uneven walking surface etc and an ERICA was completed.mailman3k15 wrote:Hello, I suffered a fall while delivering last week and injured my leg, (badly sprain ankle, very painful) This got recorded down as a incident but as it happened while i was working how would the time off incurred for this injury affect my sickness record?

The badly sprain ankle was diagnosed after a visit to your GP and your fit note was marked as unfit for work?
Because an INJURY has been sustained it AUTOMATICALLY becomes an ACCIDENT and not an INCIDENT.
RM will attempt to have this recorded as an incident to keep their safety records to a minimum and also try to avoid this being recorded as an AOD so that your time of absence will not be discounted from the attendance procedure.
Contact your H&S rep on this situation and if line manager is unwilling to record this as an accident then issue a 2nd stage individual grievance and have this investigated b a manager at a higher level of authority.

Re: Incident (fall)on delivery!
Hello, thanks for your reply's.
I stupidly told the manager that there wasn't any root cause of the injury and therefore he put it down as a incident? On hindsight it was naive off me!
I actually have since visited a doctor again and found out Ive broken a small bone in my foot!

Re: Incident (fall)on delivery!
Doesn.t matter you insist on having this placed in the accident book as you informed him at the time that you fell on duty and you have the right to have this recorded and if possible have your H&S rep presentmailman3k15 wrote:Hello, thanks for your reply's.

You obviously didn.t deliberately fall and the fall was not caused by your actions of negligence and if this is correct then this would not be considered in the root cause and is open to interpretation when the questionnaire in the ERICA document is completed with your input. There was still an ERICA completed.?
Did you have a companion with you when the ERICA was being filled in?
You may have still been suffering from trauma of the fall having broken a bone in your foot when being questioned about your fall and misheard or misinterpreted what the manager was referring to by root cause.
Get together with your H&S rep and have this matter documented properly.

Re: Incident (fall)on delivery!
if he has been off more than 3 days, and perhaps 7, then there are RIDDOR implications, the H&S rep might need to remind RM of its responsibilities.

Re: Incident (fall)on delivery!
There is definitely Riddor implications and must be reported within ten days of the accident. Involve your Heath and safety rep,

http://www.hse.gov.uk/riddor/when-do-i-report.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
When do I need to report an incident?
For most types of incident, including:
accidents resulting in the death of any person
accidents resulting in specified injuries to workers
non-fatal accidents requiring hospital treatment to non-workers and
dangerous occurrences
the responsible person must notify the enforcing authority without delay, in accordance with the reporting procedure (Schedule 1). This is most easily done by reporting online. Alternatively, for fatal accidents or accidents resulting in specified injuries to workers only, you can phone 0845 300 9923.
NB: A report must be received within 10 days of the incident.
For accidents resulting in the over-seven-day incapacitation of a worker, you must notify the enforcing authority within 15 days of the incident, using the appropriate online form.
