Don't you think the union were very lucky that RM got that injunction. It sure would have been a nuisance us being on strike today and tommorow, especially as the PEC talks may continue into tommorow!

Whether it was a straight deal between Hayes/Ward and RM to save face, or whether they made a genuine mistake that RM picked up on when it suited them, we may never know.

The problems with the notice sound very similar to the problems they had in August, so 6 weeks would be enough time to get the wording checked out don't you think?

Either way that makes them either incompetent or backstabbers. I don't know which is worse.

This is the second time in two months that as soon as wildcats have looked like they might go national, a 'deal' (of some sort) has been hurriedly struck, and people sent back to work. This is pretty much standard practice by union leaders if they think the membership might go outside their control.

Given that Unison, Unite and other unions have stopped strike action by their members before it even got started in this dispute, and have been vilifying strikes in Northern Ireland by classroom assistants over below-inflation pay increases, it'd be consistent with what's going on elsewhere, except postal workers are a bit less easy to keep down than much of the rest of us.

I'm not into conspiracy theories, although this is the most interesting one I've heard for a while. However wouldn't be the first time that management and union leaders have joined forces to break wildcat strikes, and it won't be the last. Whether there was active collusion in the injunction really isn't the point, as I made clear in my post.

It may be the other way around, not that the strike was called off because of the deal but because the deal was made because the strike was called off.

Perhaps RM are trying for a re-ballot, i.e. they have found some loop-hole in our strikes, and the union took a last minute offer.

If a massive hole was found then the strikes at the end of the week would have been made unlawful!

Need to know

Post by mailjock »

At some stage the union will need to spell out why they have twice f*cked up over calling a strike and also why they didn't learn from last time.

But just now it really doesn't matter till we know what the exec are doing cos if they recommend a ballot then there won't be any further unofficial strikes called so whether the notice is legal or not won't matter.

I noticed someone having a go at leadership because they listened to our lawyer's advice and called off the strike. Well that's why we pay for legal advice and if we had gone ahead with an official strike against legal advice and an injunction our assets would have been immediately frozen and a huge fine imposed.

Not the way to go!

I may be mistaken, but i'm sure i heard that the 'Wildcat Strikes' f****d it,summin to do with the number going on strike.
Obviously if the wildcats are out,the numbers going out on official lines are wrong.
But don't quote me on that!
