They'll ask you questions on why you think you misdelivered, and what steps you can take to not do it again. The coach will note your responses and what remedial action they suggest to you.

Will it stay on your record. Well yes it will be kept on someones file (the coaches and perhaps the managers) but it doesn't form part of your disciplinary record and shouldn't be used as such.

The TWTTP (The way to teach people) ... HERCA (Human Error Root Cause Analysis). I doubt its anything that official or scientific, but yes in its most basic form they will use some version of both these approaches.

what do you do?, trace your steps back and hopefully find out where you misdelivered? or do you just speed up and get the street finished as quick as you can? ;)

That is the best thing I have ever read on this forum. We have all mis-delivered! The op's misfortune is that someone has complained.

I misdelivered to several flats in a tower block once. I was in the wrong block. I was simply told to be more careful after some woman complained. No paperwork or anything. If they retrained every postman who misdelivered they would have to employ full time coaches. How can you be trained to not misdeliver? Its easily done especially when you have been out four hours or so and are physically and mentally tired. Nobody does it on purpose its just one of those s**t happens things.

Very true, mis-delivery is very easy to do, although not all of your fellow workers will admit it.

I had a counselling a while back for a customer complaint for delivering No.33's to No.35 on my first time in a particular street ( a new round), the person who counselled me was in fact a 'relief' manager who I knew well, acting up from the shop floor, in other words a fellow worker on most weeks. I've managed to avoid any more problems with authority with RM since, not happy it's on my record though.

Even though I routinely flick check every letter every day, my mind (and plenty of others) does go blank every so often. If your mail has been thrown in by somebody else (i.e. lapsed) you have to watch it like a hawk of course. Naturally there is not the same care taken with others mail as your own delivery, something that RM don't seem to care about at all or deny should happen. Another reason delivery is becoming more difficult to do 'to the book'.

It is silly use of resources. I believe every postman make a mistake so why worry about it too much as we are all human. Find me a footballer who never make mistakes or misplace a ball or a racing driver never crash or make mistakes.

The first thing should be counselling - to make you aware there has been a complaint and to see of there are/were any problems.
Only if there is a repeat offence should the coaching become necessary.
There might be problems with the frame - if the mail for 265A is being delivered to 265 because 265A isn't on the frame for example.
There might be a question of fatigue - is the meal relief being taken? Are measures being taken to avoid dehydration etc?

It makes perfect sense for a business to try and eliminate mistakes quite simply because mistakes cost money.

the coaches in my D.O are like the rest of us, they dont have the time to do any coach work like whats mentioned above!
They just get paid for nout really, even managers dont manage! They do postman work all morning! They dont even have time to tell people off lol

Yes, but pocket the extra money ! It is a disgrace that most of the coaches were selected not on merit or ability but as managers plants or grasses !
