Overtime regulations
Our manager refuses to pay people overtime as he says they finished early on a Tuesday for example. He is getting people to sign a book saying they comply with this, I don't know if they realise what they are actually signing.
I spoke to a union rep and he said this was not company policy and it is the managers duty to fill the allotted hours.
The manager is ignoring him and doing it anyway.
He amends our payslips on a regular basis in this manner without us knowing.
I don't know what the best course of action is.
This is at the XXX office and the managers name is XXX, he has also been bullying and intimidating people into not claiming overtime as he says XXX can do the job in this XXX time, he has been told this is not policy and continues anyway.
Several newer employees have left recently citing this as the case, he has had one of the female employees in tears with his behaviour and yet nothing is being done.

Re: Overtime regulations
I would either send an anonymous email to moya at justsayit@royalmail.com or get your rep to either help you individually raise a grievance over it or lodge a stage 1 disagreement

Our manager refuses to pay people overtime as he says they finished early on a Tuesday for example. He is getting people to sign a book saying they comply with this, I don't know if they realise what they are actually signing.
I am also not sure if he can personally alter our terms and conditions like this or set company policy in this manner?
I spoke to a union rep and he said this was not company policy and it is the managers duty to fill the allotted hours, and if one person is being forced to stay behind after the round has ended on Tuesday for example then everyone must also do so. He was attempting to make me stay behind on my own by intimidation.
The DOM made it clear about the policy for paying overtime.
The manager is ignoring her and doing it anyway.
He amends our payslips on a regular basis in this manner without us knowing until they arrive with missing hours.
I don't know what the best course of action is.

Several newer female employees have left recently citing this as the case, he has had one of the other female employees in tears with his behaviour and yet nothing is being done.
I raised this issue in a formal meeting and he is now victimising me, it is causing me great stress and putting my health and welfare at risk.
I enjoy working for Royal Mail and I wish to continue to do so, I am prepared to work extra hours and am flexible in my approach, the majority of other managers I have encountered have been absolutely fine.
Yours Sincerely.

Scum.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Play along.. But get a copy of the form.
This is fraud. It is doing similar at ours. It is refusing to pay extended overtime. i wish I had a form as evidence.

They are far too busy to deal with mundane member problems like bullying and harassment and failure to pay OT for gods sake they have election campaigns to runfishtank wrote:While you're at it add bgibson@cwu.org and dward@cwu.org to your email.

Re: Overtime regulations
Is he allowed to set company policy in this manner?
Does an agreement like this have to be company wide or can it be different rules on each separate division within an office?
The answers would seem obvious but I have never worked for a company as mismanaged as Royal Mail, it is like an episode of Fawlty Towers but without the humour.
He has been doctoring peoples pay for years and constantly lieing about procedures, these are not isolated incidents, if an audit were to takeplace would he be culpable for fraud?

No; an agreement does not have to be company wide; because amazingly you can have a local agreement which can override National. (amazing but sadly true)
If he has been doctoring pay. Then I would suggest that he is culpable. But for what I would not be sure.
I know of a DOM that has 10 greivences against him. He wears it like a badge of honour (a hard man). It's sadly still encouraged
So; do not be surprised at RM behaviour

I thought all local agreements had to be in line with national agreements.hampshireman wrote:

Otherwise what is the point of having them?
