Launch of 'Nominate a Neighbour'

Launch of 'Nominate a Neighbour' further improves customer convenience

http://www.royalmailgroup.com/launch-no ... onvenience" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

*Royal Mail launches new ‘Nominate a Neighbour’ initiative to further increase convenience for customers in a 24-hour world
*The initiative was developed by postmen and women, union representatives and managers to offer more convenience to customers
*It rolls out across the country from March 30
*Royal Mail quality of service is currently on target at 93% of first class mail delivered the next working day after posting

Customers throughout the UK will now be able to nominate a neighbour close to their address, to receive their parcels through a new initiative developed by Royal Mail employees.

The initiative, developed by Royal Mail’s front line employees, trade union representatives and managers in a number of our delivery offices and trialled at Tonbridge in Kent, will further help to increase customer satisfaction and help further improve first time delivery.

The new initiative follows Royal Mail’s successful ‘delivery to neighbour’ scheme.

When customers arrive to pick up a parcel at a delivery office, they will be asked to nominate their preferred neighbour to receive parcels on their behalf. A simple form is completed at delivery offices so that identity and address information can be verified.

Under the Nominate a Neighbour initiative, the postman or woman will try the designated address first before trying other addresses nearby. This provides customers with further reassurance about the location of their parcel and helps postmen and women on their delivery rounds.

Sue Whalley, Royal Mail Chief Operations Officer, said: “This new initiative is great news for our customers as it offers further choice and convenience if there is no-one at home.

“For our postmen and women it means that they are even more likely to deliver parcels and letters first time rather than having to take items back to the office.

First time delivery of parcels and signed for items is high in Royal Mail and in the trial delivery offices this improved further.” The initiative was developed with staff in Tonbridge delivery office and was trialled in other offices across the UK.

The Universal postal operator has agreed the initiative with the Communication Workers Union and ‘Nominate a Neighbour’ will be a new national guideline for postmen and women.

Bob Gibson, CWU National Official, said: “Postal workers frequently have to visit several addresses to find a neighbour who is in and able to accept a parcel.

This can become frustrating for our members and can lead to problems on some deliveries. CWU helped develop the new ‘nominated neighbour’ initiative to improve the delivery service and reduce the associated problems and confusion for both customers and postal workers.

We are confident it’ll be a success.” The initiative will roll out in all delivery offices from March 30. Posters advertising the new service will also be on display in offices and further information is available from Royal Mail Customer services on 03457 740 740.

Special delivery items and international items requiring a signature are excluded from the delivery to neighbour scheme. Customers can opt out of the delivery to neighbour scheme if they wish.

It says a customer can opt out of the scheme, however posties are being told to deliver to neighbours now without the customers approval. First thing that's asked if you bring a tracked back.

Not a dickie bird about this in our office. I'll be blowed if im trudging all the way down the street to 'our Ada's' or the daughters house round the corner on the neighbouring duty, only to have to come all the way back and start knocking either side as normal.

The problem is these new initiatives are jumped on by some screws and are just being used as another way for the scum to bully and harass the staff more easily.

so we will be expected to carry around a booklet with all the details of where to deliver to when the receiver is not home!!
who is going to update this book? on a daily basis when new designated neighbours have been found?

it's ok in a way for the duty holder, but for a floater it's a nightmare, and who will get it in the neck if a designated neighbour is not used?

also being the cover for the callers office, I will be expected to ask EVERYONE who comes in to collect a packet etc, if they have a designated neighbour they want their stuff delivered to, and then I have to collate all this at the same time as serving the next customer etc etc.

can see some massive queue's building up at close to closing time, and then some disappointed members of the public when I tell them the callers office is now closed and they will have to come back tomorrow.

another brain fart by a pen pushing numpty who has probably never seen front line action.

How the hell would that work with lapsing duties a day and different people doing rounds.
Plus how are you going to know these alternative delivery points plus how much extra time is it going to take.
My round was timed at 4 hours 15 minutes BEFORE lapsing and collections and now they want us delivering to an alternative address.
and how far away can this alternative address be.
How long is a piece of string

if RM made walks 3hr 30 mins I would deliver everything everyday ( except Specials etc ) as I would have time to complete my delivery and knock on a few extra door's to get rid of all the packets I have to deliver.

however, this is never going to happen, so if someone is not in I shall, P739 in, stuff it back in my Pouch and walk to my next delivery point.

So people are gonna be asked to nominate a neighbour when they are picking up a parcel? Without being able to ask their neighbours if thats ok?

I'd be mightily pissed off if I knew my neighbour had put me down to have my door chapped every second day!
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

We already have duties that are way over what they should be, plus lapsing, and now they want us to squeeze something else in. :left:

Now I don't mind taking a parcel NEXT door (what you would call a neighbour), but I am not going far out my way to attempt to deliver to someone else who might not be in. Unless the duties are shortened to allow extra time for it, it ain't happening!

I will wait for the time freezing gizmo to be issued!

Another "great idea" to add to the list from recent times, on walks that have been too big since Delivery Methods revision years ago, if you vaguely follow the indoor 318 plan before starting delivery of the full walk.

I really don't know these days who is worse, the planners who fudge the 318s to say what is possible each day in their eyes, or the many OPGs that fudge outdoor delivery methods to make more appear achievable within contract hours.
