Part time to full time

We are due to have a repick in our office soon and a number of part timers will be made up to full time,the area manager say's that some part timers with less seniority can jump the queue if they have done overtime in the last year,so I take that to mean that a part timer with 2 or 3 years service who has done a lot of overtime can jump in front of a part timer who has 12 to 14 years service in but for one reason or another cannot do much over time,has this been agreed by the union?,the area manager says that this is part of the way forward agreement,this cannot be right can it?

It seems to me that it's a constant battle to get any sort of truth out of senior management or junior for that matter,why do they think they can get away with this.

Think it was in the last agreement but like every other part of an agreement that actually benefitted us it was ignored, (well at our place it was)

The paragraph quoted above (2.7.7) has to be read carefully.
It doesn't mean anyone who works over their contacted ours will automatically get a better contract.
The overtime has to be on their own duty.
If someone was covering a collection on overtime for 2 months due to a sick absence it wouldn't lead to a better contract.
If they were continually asked to come in early to prep their duty, because the office didn't have sufficient indoor hours, it should.

We are due a repick soon and a full time member of staff has left meaning a full time contract may be available. Is that offered to the part timer that has been there the longest? Also if a part timer moved from another office to our office (because a new round has been made in the revision) would he get offered the contract over the part timer that has been there the longest as he has worked for Royal Mail longer but in a different office.

Seniority is based on continuous service * and not geographical location, so as long as meets all the criteria then a transferee will enter the list at the appropriate place. If he is most senior then he will enter the list at that point.

Also as far as I know duties are not offered to individuals, they should be advertised and then the most senior volunteer (irrespective of PT/FT) gets it. On a repick after a revision then the duties are offered in strict seniority order** and as they are selected they are removed from the pool of available duties.

* There are some cases where seniority is not based on continuous service but for this situation they don't apply.

** Dependant on local agreements and operational requirements. (you can't have 50 P&L pairs and all 50 drivers chose the same 25 pairings)
