MPU CSS Operators
We are just into our first year of being an MPU from a Sorting Office closure. We have 2 CSS machines 4 Full time operators 1 rest week operator and 1 annual leave operator floating between nights and deliveries. One of the 4 full timers has just been given EVR.We now have been told we must run the 2 CSS with only 3 operators Mon - Fri and 2 only on Sunday nights. We have been asked to come up with a plan 318 within 2 weeks before the final rest week earned is covered. This means we are also going to lose a further member of staff. Can you please advise or tell me what works well in other MPU on nights

Re: MPU CSS Operators
We went from 4 to 3 operators a year ago, but we have 3 all 6 nights. It is a slog, every night and a constant struggle especially when someone goes sick. The problem with only having 2 operators on a Sunday is that you may not hit your dispatch times if, as usually happens in my office, Sunday nights are heavier than anticipated.
We also had to go back up to 4 operators for the whole of December to cope with Christmas.
At the moment we have 3 full time Mon to Thurs nights, 1 part time Fri and Sun nights, and 2 SA duties also covering Fri and Sun, but with an earlier finish for the SAs on a Monday morning. The operation is supported by 2 reserves covering annual leave and some SAs and the part timer covering short notice sick leave.
PM me if you need more details.
