Royal Mail HGV jobs?

After recently getting my Class 1 (artic) licence out of my own pocket, I'm looking to drive HGV's for Royal Mail, does anyone know the best way to apply for this position, as the official website gets me no where and the line manager is useless. An address to write to directly perhaps?

1. Do you have any HGVs running into your yard, including 600s? If so chat with the driver and try find out the name of the Logistics Guvnor for your area, then contact him directly.

2. Try 'phoning HR for advice.

Good luck. Bear in mind that you will need your CPC card and you will also have to have an assessment/change over before they will let you drive.

Stobart's rate of pay is pretty poor for the responsibility the job entails, our normal pay will soon match their night rate and that's before delivery supplement.

theres a lot of nights weekend HGV on royal mail i see them all the time after football

From what I hear Stobarts are a terrible firm to work for,and they certainly get their money's worth out of you,HGV driving is a terrible job,even being on delivery is better.

I believe so in fact this has been highlighted in the media, within the haulage industry especially agency work, the T&Cs is so poor, CPC and DVSA checks are driving people out of the industry and deterring recruitment, I'm surprised its not publicised highly enough.

There are some that are latching on to this and setting up driving schools to persuade people to sign up, there are still obstacles, under 25 insurance, long training periods, substantial financial commitment, plus paying for CPC course,

I was tramping all over the Country for a long time when I first came out the Army and I saw the haulage industry go downhill,if they offered me a brand new scania or volvo to go back I wouldn't dream of it,working for royal mail on delivery is far better,if you really want to go driving lorries try and work for a big supermarket but be quick because they are all going contract hire,I drove for Ross frozen foods for a while but that went to contract and was ruined,I don't think it will be long before the big stuff at royal mail goes to someone like stobarts,then you will see some changes,and not for the better.
