getting moaned at by DOM for not taking lapsing

Our DOM is constantly moaning at us in our office for not taking lapsing .
He is saying
" it only takes 15 mins " but we work to our time and refuse to go over but they expect you to do it.
They also conveniently forget that it takes 10 mins to get the lapsing point and back as well.
This is the same DOM that had a check list for the staff survey ticking off each individual after filling in our survey and returning it to him.
This is the same DOM who after having 3 postmen quit their jobs hasn't advertised the walks and have had them lapsed since .
Is this happening in other offices??

The DOMs are no doubt getting pressure higher up the food chain, they are not challenging the DSM's instructions enough as regards what is realistic for OPGs to do in their contract hours in 2015.

It does not help that many OPGs are caving in to the pressure passed on from DSM> DOM> lino> OPG, by ignoring how we are supposed to do our job, doing things that save time and make it appear more is possible to do within our hours.

Some of this will be from the old OPG culture of job and finish, but those days have supposed to have been over for five years, we are all supposed to work our hours. I've yet to see "job and finish" benefit the employee in any job that they intend/need to stick with for a wage for life, the sooner you get done, the more managers add to the typical workload.

Stick to your guns, don't do anything silly like hide in a backstreet for 15 minutes or more to avoid lapsing, when the new PDAs come in and we can be tracked throughout our outdoor span things are probably going to change.

You might get asked to take the lapsing out even if you will go over when you do not want to, do not feel sorry for your own walk's "customers," you have to be ruthless and cut off from your walk and take it back for managers to deal with... If you indeed will go over when you do not want to.

You need to be careful with this refusing to take it out could land you in trouble, if dom insists you take it your best to take it but just make him aware it will be coming back in at end of shift along with the rest of your cut off,

Same here - we were all corralled into a room in place of Waste-Time Learning last Tuesday and made to fill them in. Minus the bribe of hot drinks and biscuits some seem to have got....

The answer should be fairly simple.
1: Do you have cwu rep ?
2: If yes, is the rep having the weekly resource (SI) meeting ?
3: If yes to both, the model week should prove you can't do the lapsing.

I don't believe they can make you lapse against office vacancies, but they can ask to lapse against sickness.

There's a new IWT coming soon, if you say you can't complete then then it will be used to determine if you should be able to or not. If the figures say you should be able to lapse or complete then you take it or go down conduct code.

Our rep has been training on the IWT recently and says it's actually quite generous when it comes to mail count etc (he's done actual full mail counts and compared to the figures the IWT has given). The current IWT is the same, we used to have sheets up with the prep times it gave for each walk and it took most of us less.

Some pairs though are taking 6hrs per week more than their duties should take to complete.

Basically, for the first time ever Posties are going to have to meet a standard workrate. Saying you've worked your hours isn't enough if you've only done 35hrs work in your 39hrs. It's already happening in our office, people are being pulled in for under performing.

Sorry take it or go down conduct code. That's bollocks with all due respect there is no national agreement on any prep rate except the 1 minute prep test and there is nothing in the near future which is due to change that even a new version of the IWT.

If people are being pulled in for not meeting an unagreed prep rate then the rep should be putting in disagreements left right and centre about it.

They can ask you to lapse for vacancies or any other type of absence they can even get you to lapse to enable your office to send someone to cover a duty in a another office. BUT you only need to lapse if you have time in your contracted hours, if you don't have time then you can cut off if you wish or ask to be paid ot
