Not sure about the way your DO does your leave, but in my DO you simply ask if that day is available to take as leave. If it's available (ie not filled up with others taking leave) then you can have it, providing you have the leave to take (if you know what i mean).

Apparently leave is no longer managed by the day or week, but by the hour - so in theory you could take the odd hour or three off here and there - but try putting that to your DOM and see how far you get.

But if that day is not available, which is usually the case, you're unlikely to get the day off even for a hospital, doctor, dentists appointment or wedding invitation or any other reason.

yes we have a rep ,this was something that was sprung on us a couple of weeks ago,up to that point,we were not allowed to take single days ,(something to do with over budget) so i can take it that this is not a national thing.

This is rife in our area. So many people have got leave they cannot take because not enough days have been made available. The response from management when pushed, if you agree to more lapsing we can open up some more slots. One office actually got together as a whole and took RM to court over it and won, they got the hours paid, not actually days off though,

tell them you're not coming in and ask for anual leave if possible if not then ask for special leave c.
As soon as you become aware of the situation make them aware, you can do no more.

Get Saint Stan or Susan (No not him)to ask for the day off,if it's available then he/she can come and see you and you then get an uncle Bob (No not him either)
If Stan/Sue doesn't get the day off and if you are up for it and it's important-go sick.

 Did you really say that POSTMAN?!
:cuppa Yep,I did.

I've been here 7 years and not been allowed to use my single days, I've got more that 2 weeks (in hours) to use, but am not allowed because the Dom can't get anyone to cover the days off I need, then again, all the part timers in my office has the same issue. Full timers never seem to have a problem. Got put on a stage 1 cause my daughter had to go in for an operation, even though I gave the manager notice, but he had to go to the football that day, guess my excuse isn't reasonable enough

Don't worry about your 2 weeks, I'm owed 6 weeks and many FTimers are owed more than that.......and all because managers used the holiday budget for savings.
