Can someone tell me how long a stage one lasts for please? My stage was issued back in January of last year. I'm off sick currently but have had no absence since it was issued. Will get a stage 2? I've read a stage one only lasts 6 months now?

A stage 1 formal notification is for 4 absences or 14 days in a 12 month period. As your stage 1 was issued in January 2014 your question is irrelevant as this has now expired and you would have a clear absence history.
You will only get a stage 2 formal notification if your present absence exceeds the RM standard of 2 absences or 10 days in a fixed 6 month period.
If your present illness exceeds 9 days you will be considered for a stage 1 unless you can provide mitigating circumstances for your absence.
Remember the issuing of a stage 1 is not mandatory and would be left to the decision of your manager.

Ok before my posting should have established if Bing Bong on her present illness has been off since January 2015 making her presence absence of at least 2 months. If her present illness has commenced 12 months after the date of issue of the first stage 1 formal notification then she started this absence with a clean record. This being so then she will receive a stage 1 for her current absence,
What is not abundantly clear is if by being previously a stage 1 formal notification would she be given a further 12 months of 4 absences or 14 days or go direct to a fixed 6 months.
If the original stage 1 is still active then if she incurs an absence of over 9 days then this will become a stage 2 formal notification unless she improves on the standard set by RM for this period.

just to clarify my stage 1 was issued in jan 2014.

ive not been off sick since until this week.

you are not on any stages then as your record has been clear for over a year

If you are absent for 6 days in a row or 2 lots of 3 days 1 after another in any 12 month period during any 6 months, you will be 3 absences away from a stage 1. If in a 6 month period you do this more than once every 12 months, you will also be issued a stage 1.
If in the next 6 months you have more than 2 absences, in a 12 month period, you will reach stage 2, also if you have more than 10 days but less than 11, you will reach a stage 2, if you have less than 5 days but more than 4, you will go back to stage 1, as long as that happened in 6 months and not 12, otherwise you can only have 2 absences of no more than 4 days each, but totalling no more than 7 days, or 5 if has only been 6 months, if while on a stage 2 you have another 2 absences during a 6 month period or 1 absence of 11 days but not more that 6, you may be issued a stage 3, but only if you have not had more that a total of 6 days absent but not more than 5 in a row , or 3 lots of 4, unless 6 months have passed since your first absence or 12 months from your 2nd absence that does not total more than 1 lot of 4 days or 2 lots of 3 days in a row.

I think I'm right in saying that's how the stage procedure goes!!

those stamdards are a single absence of 4 days or fewer in the following 6 months, and this applies to all stages.
