Hi hope someone can help me with this one. I was being loaned to another office that was further away. It should have been for two weeks but went on for three months. Eventually the Dom asked me if i would like to transfer to his office. This meant coming off the five day 8 hour duty to 4 day 10 hours as a floater. Initially i got 1 weekend in three and all was well then a new dom tookover and the weekends started slipping . Finally i went to grievance as this was not was agreed and won and went back to one in three again. Now we are due to go through a resign. We are losing two rounds plus four people have been brought in from other offices. The dom says the changes will put me in reserve due to seniority. My question is this. As ive already gone to grievance before because i wasnt getting what i was promised when i transfered. Can this be allowed to happen again having won at grievance. The trade off for driving the extra distance was the stability of family life. Without that im out of pocket and back to guess what day off you got, but it wont be Saturday.
Any help much appreciated.

You're going through a revision so I don't think you have a leg to stand on,thousands of posties have had to change.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Weekends following grievance
Guess there are two options
Firstly the reserve should also match the duty structures within the unit for example my unit has wallingtons,9 day, rotating rest days, so the reserves are broken into these groups so the hours match, i:e rotating rest day reserve 7:48 couldn't cover a 9 day duty 8:18.
Or use the B&T agreement
Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.
This means that reserves should also be treated the same as only duty holder in relation to having a better work life balance. The push back will be that the reserves are there to cover the AWD's and this can still be achieved with a little planning if the rep is willing to push it. Some areas have a rotate system for the reserves so they get a better work life balance.

Re: Weekends following grievance
Consider yourself very lucky.
Three staff in my DO used to work to a 1 in 4 rotate (did so for over 10 years), following our revision the DOM told us we had to change to a 1 in 6 rotate to fall in line and be fair to everyone in the office.
We took it to Level 3 Grievance and used all the Agreements and anything else we could think of to support our case and lost.
That was it - no further route of action, nothing.
There was nobody in our office that wanted one of those jobs on the 1 in 4 - all indoor jobs working their full hours.
Got Union involved all the way through and still came away with nothing.
JustSayIt - again nothing came of it.
That was bad enough but since the Grievance our DOM has just heaped more and more crap on the indoor staff. One of those 3 is now considering early retirement and the other 2 are thinking of going on delivery. Of course that will be dragged out as far as possible as there are no other staff trained to cover the indoor duties.
As far as your situation is concerned i think once the revision has taken place you'll just have to fall in line with the rest of the office.

So your dom wanted to get rid of the 1 in 4's but, there were still 1 in 4's left after the revision? Sorry,i'm confusedMezza wrote:There was nobody in our office that wanted one of those jobs on the 1 in 4 - all indoor jobs working their full hours.

Sorry but i cannot se what is so confusing about that?
The indoor staff used to work a 1 in 4 rotate. After the revision they were made to work to a 1 in 6 rotate like the rest of the office had always done.

Re: Weekends following grievance
Meaning that although many would consider a 1 in 4 rotate to be better than a 1 in 6 rotate, there was nobody in our office that wanted to take on an indoor duty in order to get on the 1 in 4 rotate. The delivery staff were all quite happy working a 1 in 6 rotate whilst knowing the 3 indoor staff all worked to a 1 in 4 rotate.

Everyone is meant to be working their full hours anyway, no matter what type of office (think it was the Pay&Mod agreement)Mezza wrote:There was nobody in our office that wanted one of those jobs on the 1 in 4 - all indoor jobs working their full hours.

If only that applied in our office. I can prove beyond a doubt, that in my DO the average delivery duty makes 4 hours a week ( finishing early and being allowed to go home). Some duties go up to and sometimes over - some duties can make 4 hours a day at least a couple of times a week - but 4 hrs per duty was the average time made per duty.
Simple maths - that's an average of 16 hours a month.
That's an average of 192 hours per year.
That means that delivery staff work a month less a year than the indoor staff, for the same money !!
Please don't get me wrong, i do not blame the delivery staff at all. I blame the duties and the managers that ignore any agreements to utilise all paid hours. We have plenty of work sitting around the office for people to do if they get back early, but delivery staff say no thank's and go home and management let them do it.
