Social Media Sites

Post by Ossie From Preston »

Having a discussion with a mate of mine yesterday about uploading photos/videos taken in Royal Mail offices and mail centres and uploading on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook what is Royal Mail's policy can you be conduct coded and what charge? and who does it apply to, is it just posties or managers or both? I am saying its NOT allowed and people could be conducted. Anyone know the policy on this please....

I don't think you're allowed to take the photos in the first place let alone post them on Facebook, etc. But i could be wrong.

It applies to everyone within RMG, although its not the posting of the photographs that is an offence its the actual taking of them:

Your are 100% correct.

The actual "offence" could be anything such as bringing RM into disrepute, to failure to comply with contractual obligations, it all depends on the circumstances, context and severity of the incident.

It is a sacking offence.

And so it should be.
I have a right to privacy at work and do not endorse my image/job being publicly posted on those tedious social media sites. It might be de rigeur amongst some to bore the general public with photo/videos of themselves, their pet, what they cooked for dinner or any other banal drivel they seem to think people will find remotely interesting. I though, do not want any part of it. If I saw someone filming near me, I'd avoid the temptation to shove their phone where the film would come out black and report it straight to the DOM. And I am someone who relentlessly avoids managerial contact where possible.
There is also serious security implications plus confidential business practices that would quite rightly concern RM.

So, just do your work and keep the phones in your pockets if you please! :thumbup

Indeed you do and its protected under the Human Rights Act 1988, and the European Convention on Human Rights. But for how long :hmmmm as both are under threat from policies being presented by various parties in the forthcoming GE.

That screen shot you put on I just looked at the link on the top it say's - We provide computers, mobile phones and a range of portable
equipment as work tools for many of our people - However it does not permit:
Restrictions on the use of personal mobile and camera phones
Filming or photography on any Royal Mail Group site, or of Royal Mail Group operations,
could jeopardise the security of our business. Therefore employees are not permitted to: Record, film or take photographs on Royal Mail Group premises, or in Royal Mail Group vehicles, without the express prior permission of the site manager or person in control.
Film or distribute materials which could harm our commercial reputation, or cause offence to colleagues. Now my question is they do not provide posties?

To me it seems like if they RM provides the Mobile or Camera phone? so where would convert recording coming like a Dictaphone for instance would that be included? its not very clear...

For me its very clear.

If its your personal phone, computer, dictaphone (basically anything capable of making a recording of some kind) is banned.
Therefore employees are not permitted to:
Record, film or take photographs on Royal Mail Group premises,
If they issue you any item capable of making a recording then you can only use it for the task given to you by the manager.
without the express prior permission of the site manager or person
in control
So although its all in one sentence both issues are covered.

Basically any item capable of making a digital or analogue recording of a voice, photograph or video is banned unless a Manager tells you to do something with it. I think it would also cover use the photocopier to take a picture of your own buttocks :left: :left:

Can we do a sketch, drawing or painting and put that up then?
Nothing said about that type of image anywhere is there.

I would say yes as they are an interpretation rather than a record. However, posting a floor plan would be inviting trouble.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

There is no hard and fast rule that anyone would be charged in they posted on FB, it all depends on the circumstances and whether or not they have permission, and of course whether its found, reported or investigated.

If you think the manager doesn't have permission then as I said before its up to your conscience.

https://www.myroyalmail.com/sites/default/files/styles/full/public/images/news/Think%20Secure%20logo%20MRM.JPG?itok=PumNL6BhFor many, social media is an important part of life. It’s also a key tool when it comes to Royal Mail Group promoting its products.

Our key focus is to maintain the company’s reputation and the level of trust that we have worked hard to build in the UK community.

This is even more important now that Royal Mail Group is a private company.

However, wherever and whenever you use it, be extremely careful not to post anything that might harm Royal Mail Group’s reputation:

Never discuss Royal Mail Group, its clients, partners or suppliers in your social media posts in a negative way that can cause reputational damage.
Never disclose Royal Mail Group internal, confidential or strictly confidential information, or confidential/private information belonging to third parties.
Never share or exchange commercially sensitive information on social media sites
Never post comments of images that are, or could be considered to be inappropriate, defamatory, discriminatory or sexually explicit. This includes anything that could constitute bullying or harassment.
We want employees to be able to use social media, but be mindful that it is a public forum.
