Guessing DDA - 99% Duty change, thoughts?

Post by 19times »

Hi all.

Please may I have peoples thoughts on this.

Please bare with me.

Harry (not real name) of 8 years service who has a heart condition and has worked indoors is now going on to 'his' signed for duty - resign was about <12mths ago however when he signed for said duty he never actually did it because he did the indoor work.

Now this has happened. The duty that Harry signed for originally has a few inclines so now he is supposed to be going on that duty all the inclines have been put onto Peters walk that he signed for... 35yrs service he has!

Basically Peter now has two roads left from his originally signed for walk and he has had no input on this as to how it will affect him/us.

Harry will be using a HCT where's Peters walk was a HCT walk but is now van share

I get DDA gets preference over seniority but this seems very unfair on Peter AND the walk it is paired with which is working very well as a van share believe or not!

Thoughts please? Peter (and me!) will be discussing it with the Rep on Thurs.

Thanks for reading this long post

Yes - i thought it was more of a Union question than life as a Blue Shirt. These 2 areas are the busiest ones anyway, and its less likely to go off at a tangent in here. :Very Happy

The first thing to be decided is Peter going to be worse off with his revised walk from his original signed duty as you will be well aware can be altered due to operational requirements.
Is Peter with 35 years service and with added inclines to his revised walk cause any detriment to Peter's health and has been risk assessed with the additional workload.
Has Peter been singly selected to carry the overspill from Harry's round and with better planning could have been shared with others.
Is there the possibility that the van share duty will with this walk create overtime or result in continuous cutting off procedures.
Questions that need to be put to your rep.

Also has use of hct been correctly assessed for use given dda consideration. Full hct is heavy.

Thanks guys for the replies.

This is what I can see happening as the walk used to be paired with mine when van share first came in and it never worked then!

We will no doubt now have daily conflict when this change occurs - currently there is no problem completing within duty times.

Repick done, now changing Walk to suit

Post by 19times »

Hi Guys,

I'll try to keep this brief.

My colleague of over 30yrs service signed for a walk when the repick was done around 8mths ago and now 99% of his walk is getting changed to accommodate someone who signed for a hilly in places walk.

In short they are swapping walks in essence but at no time was the 30yr service bloke consulted (other bloke was as this was done to suit him)

Does he have to lump it? got meeting with Rep next week.

Why is the other persons walk being changed? Is it to accommodate him due to an injury or illness covered by equalities act?

Just a question on complete office re-picks, are they instigated only by management? or can they be done if the majority of duty holders want one? or is agreement by all duty holders required?

They are done after a major change in the office like a revision and should be done whether a manager wants one or not after the revision

Reading your previous posts, the fact a resign was done 9 or so months ago doesn't matter, the duty is being changed to accommodate a disability now by the looks of it. If it all happened at the time of resign he could push for resign to be done again as this duty should have been ring fenced for this person and not put in resign. As the disability appears to have arisen since the fact a resign was done 9 mi the ago doesn't factor. As such there is not much really that can be done, end of the day the person with the disability should be be looked after first even to the "detriment" of a 30 year guy, seniority matters nothing in this case. End of the day the 30 year guy is still working the same hours just on a different duty no one is being asked to work over their time

Seems fair comment that to me - I did say to him, look you are payed till 2 and that's it work till that time however seeing as we manage to complete 99% of the time at the min which means no hassle that will almost certainly change once this kicks in and daily battles/stress will commence
