Footwear check

Can anyone provide information on how often management should check the condition of the tread on official footwear? I have been told every 3 months. This is in response to one of my members having a slip at work which resulted in serious injury, however the manager has issued an attendance review warning, which i am thinking of challenging.

My own opinion is that it should be down to the employee to make sure his equipment is up to scratch as individual risk assessment. If that equipment becomes faulty then it gets reported to management for a replacement.

You shouldn't be challenging the fact there is a review that's what's supposed to happen regardless of reason for absence it's the decision to issue the warning that you should be fighting against if appropriate

If its the new Anvils, then checking every three months wouldn't make a difference. Mines have had no grip on wet, frosty, mucky surfaces from day 1. Surprised they haven't been recalled and classed as dangerous yet.

(1) Every employer shall ensure that any personal protective equipment provided to his employees is maintained (including replaced or cleaned as appropriate) in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.

I have seen some photos in the Office showing you the type of wear to look out for! And I have had my tread checked by the DOM, although he didn't use a Depth Gauge! Only the once though!

Royal mail gets more like primary school everyday,do you honestly need to have your footwear checked every few months?,if you think they are worn put in for a new pair simples,it ain't rocket science.

Get them changed then if they're not fit for purpose.
Health and Safety reasons should be cited and it's irrelevant if they've not lasted the "required time", it just proves they're not up to the job, and that you do need another pair to use for work.
