I booked 4 weeks holiday of which 2 weeks was carried over from last year 2 months ago and have received authorization to take them, then on Friday 6th March I got a letter from my manager saying my holidays are not authorized. I have booked tickets to go abroad costing £600 when I got the OK and now I cant cancel. Any advice would be much appreciated.

You would have received written confirmation from your manger if your two weeks holidays are into the next financial year from 1st April 2015.
You stated that you have received authorisation to take them is that authorisation for carrying the 2 weeks over to the next year or is the authorisation for the actual holiday dates ?

Do you have any official notification that those 2 weeks were authorised, Leave sheets etc. They cannot stop you taking your statutory and/or contractual leave within the current leave year cycle. Demand your statutory leave entitlement and refuse to carry any over.

When is the holiday - it may be too late for RM to cancel it as they have to give the same notice of refusal/cancellation as the length of the break. you say yours is 4 weeks, that means they have to give you 4 weeks notice before the holiday if they refuse or cancel it.

4. Booking time off
The general notice period for taking leave is at least twice as long as the amount of leave a worker wants to take (eg 2 days’ notice for 1 day’s leave), unless the contract says something different.

An employer can refuse a leave request but they must give as much notice as the amount of leave requested, eg 2 weeks’ notice if the leave requested was 2 weeks.

I have written authorization to carry 2 weeks from last year 2013/2014 and also have 2 weeks from this year 2015/2016 both added together totaling 4 weeks holiday all authorized.

Have you posted the correct annual leave cards what happened between 2014 /2015 ?

A letter on 6th March could only cancel an annual leave booking of 7 days, because it gave you notice of 7 days.

As you had booked more than 7 days off, that letter is not worth the paper it is written on.

I wouldn't get involved in any dispute, simply go and enjoy your holiday!
