Uniformed/uninformed
The former member known as Clashcityrocker asked me to post this:
Dingo wrote: If we rolled over like some do then God knows where the rest of the UK would be today.
Then in the next breath: One thing I am not is offensive to CWU members
It is incredibly offensive to suggest that other areas "roll over". It is disrespectful to every unit rep, every Area Rep, every Divisional Rep and Branch Secretary.
I don't know of any other poster who feels the need to slag off other areas like you do. You don't deal with the same things they deal with.
Maybe it is the Londoner in you.
Have a few sherbets, get on RMC and give it large my son?
So having slagged off whole swathes of the CWU, maybe you can understand why I thought he had gone the whole hog and slagged off the whole of the uniformed staff as well.
Maybe he meant uninformed. Maybe it was a Freudian slip?
Either way it was a shocking lack of attention to detail. Maybe that's how our agreements get written.
Dingo wrote: Where I do hit back is where people who should be helping all get better conditions, want those with better conditions to give up theirs. That is a race to the bottom and not a trade union fight. (A truly ugly sentence construction)
A nice sound bite but lacking in any substance.
I think what people would like is adherence to national agreements.
Nobody would have a problem with your 89% full time staff if you had the workload to justify it. But you don't. If you did you wouldn't be losing 25 full time jobs in Willesden. And how many in Cricklewood? How many in Kilburn?
For years they could not retain part-time ...so the employment model due to the cost of living was mainly full-time.
You don't need to be a mathematical genius to understand that with a nationally agreed 75/25 split, an area with an artificially inflated 89% full time model is going to place pressure on other areas to be below 75%.
Rather than raising up everyone's standards, you are protecting your own at other's expense. That isn't trade unionism as I understand it.
Or does the London Division have a cunning plan to raise every area to 89% full time? Ha Ha Bonk. (The old ones are the best)
And in an office that has been carrying 25 surplus full time staff, were they all working their paid hours in line with the national agreements?
Obviously not.
As a little aside:
What do you think happens in an office that has a spare 50 hours/day?
The managers don't need to manage. They don't need to deal with "difficult" people. If one person wants to spend all morning prepping one duty then it is easier to leave them to it. Unfortunately the revision tools don't allow for that and overnight that person's workload is doubled.
If I had any sort of responsibility for Stoke Newington I would be very worried. If an office has an EP of 65 there is something very wrong. There are probably good postmen/women working at a higher rate being expected to carry those working at a much lower rate. Now I'm a great believer in "from each according to his ability to each according to his needs" and will gladly carry any colleague who genuinely needs it. But I draw the line at people who simply don't want to work for a living.
It appears the raison d'etre of the London Division is now the protection of the feckless and the workshy and that isn't a trade union fight.
When did having pride in your work, and a fair day's work for a fair day's pay become anti-trade union values?
So while you may throw about little insults about chip shops on shoulders (I will be having surgery) and axes to grind, try and understand that it is a heartfelt desire for equality that motivates some of us. And a sincerely held belief that undermining national agreements simply undermines the union as a whole.
We use our collective strength to protect the weakest. Isn't that the point of a trade union?
The London Division would now appear to be a pale imitation of a trade union.
I know I shouldn't do this but necessity dictates. Uninformed?
For anyone still reading (well done. I don't like brown M&Ms) one of us is a postman who lives and works in NW London.
And it isn't Dingo.

So the answer is yes he has left the forum. No he hasn't left RM.LondonCalling wrote:The former member known as Clashcityrocker
No, and even if he had its considered bad form on RMC to try and identify people or link multiple accounts to one individual. Eyes and ears and all that, we prefer to allow people their anonymity.bustedflush wrote:Or has he changed ID to 'londoncalling'?
The context is Clashcityrocker was so incensed by a particular post and/or poster he felt he had no option but to discontinue his association with RMC, but asked Londoncalling to join and post the message on his behalf.bustedflush wrote:Sorry, need a bit of context to follow this one!

Indeed, his response to 'Dingo' on Wednesday 25th February was "OOh that's me told then.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:its all therebustedflush wrote:Someone explain?bustedflush wrote:Has clashcityrocker left the forum or RM?So the answer is yes he has left the forum. Apparently what this board needs is simply the pearls of wisdom of the upper echelons of the CWU. The views of the uniformed people .......
Well Dingo - you can have the board to yourself. I really am not interested any more.
And when I say I'm not coming back, unlike you I mean it.
and he's not posted on here since.
Maybe an apology fron Dingo would make him reconsider his decision not to edge towards his 25,000th post on here.

Re: Uniformed/uninformed
I do not think anyone needs to apologise to anyone else... Clash had not been a shrinking violet himself... So dingo said he had a chip on his shoulder - not the worst thing that has been said here - and it was not even relevant to the issues anyway.
The funny thing was that a few days back clash was defending dingo when I caled him out about not sharing his pearls of wisdom and being too London-centric ( a bit of thick skin when it comes to London being discussed - uninformed, misinformed or whatever the case might have been or is still is with London being treated so differently by the RM and CWU.
Dingo never meant to have a dig at 'uniformed' posties (it was only one letter missing - uninformed) and he is entitled to his opinions; something he does get trolled for (not always nice) from time to time.
If Clash wants to come back, he is more than welcome - even from some of his adversaries; his contributions are invaluable, helpful, different and often thought provoking.
* Context was pretty obvious from the original post anyway.
** Anonymity is great on this forum (even if some people know each other... outside of here); perhaps dingo might consider being anonymous because of his position.

Yes, if Clash wants to come back he is more than welcome and although he hasn't posted on here for eleven days I expect he still has a look to see what's happening on here.chrisj wrote:I do not think anyone needs to apologise to anyone else... If enough of us comment that his contributions are invaluable, helpful, different and often thought provoking then he just might make a welcome return.
