Some of us feel that Keith's presence on the cwu facebook page is sorely missed and a small campaign to get Keith recognition with honorary membership status should be forthcoming.

It is also unclear why Keith has been banned on the cwu facebook page as Keith as been a member longer than I have on the cwu facebook page and I can trace my membership to around the 12 months mark perhaps longer?

Perhaps as Keith did; you keep mentioning the short comings of the CWU whether it's short comings in the way it provides advocacy to its members and the way that the CWU ridicules anyone who tries to help other members or tries to find ways of helping the membership improve their working conditions or retain job security, especially since the disaster of the agenda for growth agreement which has destroyed job morale and job security inside the Royal Mail.

Keith wanted to move away from soundbites and impersonal phone numbers used by the CWU to offer individuals legal and advocacy help, in which on the CWU facebook page he is qualified to do after his degree courses and training at Alvescot Lodge.

Many members have found his advice useful and he has helped many to sort out job difficulties and also outside of work difficulty issues.

I could go on but I think everyone gets the message, Keith is a bit indispensable on the main CWU facebook page.

Why doesn't he just set his own facebook page up then!
FFS!

Maybe there should be a change.org petition to get him to have his own Facebook page and have done with it.

He hasn't, It is my understanding that the CWU has ruled that all posters to that group should be current Members of their Union and Mr. Humphries is no longer a Member.

If that gets you a ban online the internet will be a quiet place.....
Bottom line is if he wants back on he can rejoin as a retired member. His call, no need for silly campaigns.

I really do not see what all the fuss is about - if members wish to keep the CWU Facebook page as members only then so be it but then they will be losing the expertise and advice of Ex Members and even some people who have never been members of the union. There is the perception that 'The Management' are spying on the page and that people will be conduct coded and blacklisted for the comments they make ... well we all have to act responsibly wherever we post it is just common sense when using sites that are in the public domain... I'm pretty sure managers do read the CWU page and I don't believe that is a bad thing as it is a far better way of finding out people's thoughts and view than a 100 years worth of Employee Feedback Surveys and they might actually learn something. At the time of posting CWU page had 6399 members and the RMChat page 3955 members - Keith is still an active (to put it mildly) member of the latter and many of the same issues are discussed on both pages.

As you say, it never ceases to amaze me that people forget that the CWU and RMC pages on facebook, and indeed here on RMC itself, are all easily accessible to the public and whatever is written is easily stored for future retrieval.

Anyone can exercise Free Speech, and on all 3 sites you can post what you want, as long as you follow the rules and laws of the land, but everyone also has to remember that whatever they post, they may end up one day having to defend it in a disciplinary no matter how trivial or comical you may think its is.

As a bit of a neutral in this (don't do FB) I can see both sides, it's a CWU Facebook page, this particular guy might be helpful but if you don't limit it to CWU members it could easily get hijacked by tossers giving bad advice, having said that I've been told that some of the advice coming from the reps on the page isn't that great either.

The real problem is that it reinforces the kind of closed shop social club attitude that a lot of senior reps have about the union, it really is time to drag these dinosaurs into the 21st century, unions belong to the workers, not a bunch of middle aged, fat ex-workers.

FB is dangerous especially when you're sounding off about your employer.
Apparently a few have been pulled in recently because of the CWU page, and some on there wanted the group closed and members only.

They can't make their mind up on there.

I agree ... but no more dangerous than this site as they are both in the public domain. Provided you are honest, do not deliberately bring RM into disrepute (although this part is very subjective and open to interpretation), do not identify people by name or by position/place of employment I do not believe you have much to worry about in terms of the conduct code. It is the little black book that is more of a concern as once your card is marked in RM they can, and will, make things very difficult for individuals.
