1 in 6 saturday removal
as in the title, apparently according to our DIM he has cancelled it as it's not working and on Saturday 14th valentines day 13 walks failed to get delivered. We have 9 full time vacancies due to retirement/IHR and 12 Saturday positions that have deliberately been left unfilled so they cannot get all the walks covered. He is using the failures as reason to cancel it even though the three previous managers all managed to cope with it just fine.
The area CWU rep has apparently agreed to this. Nothing has been mentioned to the staff and we have not been consulted or asked to vote on it? We have been told that the last 1 in 6 allowed will be 9th March?
Is there anyone higher in the union that we can bring this to the attention of? It very much sounds like at best there will be a walk out and most likely substantial drop in membership. After all why are we paying £3 a week just for the union to agree to everything management tell them?

That seems like piss poor resourcing to me. 13 walks failed,he should be disciplined for that, they are supposed to plan rotas six weeks in advance, okay people go sick, but 13 walks uncovered? What happened to the MANDATORY resource meetings the rep and the DOM are supposed to have? What an organisation.Judgee wrote:as in the title, apparently according to our DIM he has cancelled it as it's not working and on Saturday 14th valentines day 13 walks failed to get delivered. If you are on 1 in 6, why would you need 12 Saturday contracts?
When this "rota" was put in place, who thought it would be possible to recruit 12 Saturday contracts?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Nevermind 1 in 6, 1 in 4 was agreed nationally, wasn't it? FTs at our depot get 1 in 3, a lot of 30hr PT get 5 day long weekends every 3 weeks, 22.5hr PT work 3-day weeks covering the FT duties.

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
well all of this has happened in our office. they've removed the 9 day fortnights and the 3 weeks on and one off. they say it isn't working because there isn't enough work Monday Tuesday and Saturday to sustain them. union has agreed, and brought in new shift patterns. as a result a whole office repick followed. now some staff are getting 1 sat off in 3, some are getting 1 Saturday off in 4. and sadly some part timers are not getting ANY Saturdays off at all. farcical to say the least.

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
If you have followed Dave's many posts on this issue - I am sure you will have come across some... The Reps were in favour of whatever.. to save full time jobs... Simple!
Disagreements will mean nothing if the whole point of the disagreement is not achievable; it simply delays the process. Anything other than 1 in 6 will all be gone very soon and even 1 in 6 will be gone for some within offices...
I am a Reserve, I never achieve 1 in 6 - it is simply not possible. I get mostly Monday and Tuesdays off as that is the way walkholders plan their holidays and add long-term sick and being shuffled around to cope with ad-hoc absence and non-drivers; it is something I have come to accept.
You can disagree all you like but it is now an unstoppable force - we are moving towards a more flexible and diversed offices; many different types of contracts within contracts.
* Some offices have Saturday workers, some have actually voted to have people getting non-saturdays off and Reserves rarely gets that many Saturdays off in offices where there is no-overstaffing or a high number of part-timers...
It is the Way Forward - you want a job or you want Saturdays off?

what the reps are in favour for doesnt really matter, at end of the day its what the office votes for that they have to represent, and following the IR process through does work as at the end of the process if followed right all the stages through leaves RM only the option of implementing the change by executive action which currently they will not do, its all about the office sticking to their guns, if rep, area rep etc agree with RM it does not matter its what the office want that they are supposed to push for and if they wont then simply go above them, and yes it is that simple

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
I think it will be difficult for an office to proceed with disagreement and negotiations with Management and RM without the support of the CWU Representations.
Why should any manager even listen to any sort of office representation that does not include the official representatives. As TrueBlue often reminds us - that is what we signed up to. We can go into getting rid of the office Reps and so on, but what about Area Rep and Branch Rep - it is a hopeless situation...
* How do you organise an office vote? Lets get real!
All I have said is academic anyway because the office have voted for it - and what do you expect where at the end of the day; self-interests will rule supreme.
I sometimes wonder...

Re: 1 in 6 saturday removal
well a lot of us said EXACTLY what you said there zx....but the branch were brought in and we were told that we could not get what WE wanted as members or go back to the status quo because it would mean losing 9 full time jobs, and the union were not prepared to sacrifice 9 full time jobs so that we could keep our duty stuctures. so we had to accept it. we all suspect it most definitely WAS a smokescreen to get what they wanted in. as soon after there was a preference exercise for VRs.....and at least 9 people wanted VR. the manager said they couldn't afford to lose 9 people out of the office...it just wasn't feasible. and we couldn't function.!!...sold down the river.zx135 wrote:chrisj wrote:If you have followed Dave's many posts on this issue - I am sure you will have come across some...
