It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

When he says "we" he's sounding like he includes himself in that statement. Somehow I think not.
Or is he just using the "Royal We"?

The survival of the CWU as a stand alone union is dependant on having enough sub paying members.
The more jobs we lose, the more members we lose and the survival of the CWU looks less and less likely.

Unfortunately Bob is beginning to sound like one of those - if you start on time, take your full meal relief and use a trolley you won't have to lapse - brigade.
It isn't true.

The only thing that is going to save my job (and Uncle Bob's) is having enough work to fill my contracted hours.
Without that, no amount of waving bits of paper around is going to save anyone's job.

To be fair Bob was answering a question from a local rep who said too many of his members rush around like there was no tommorow.

Now the context of Bobs response and the general meeting was Ofcom are demanding that Royal Mail become more efficent before they step in to protect the USO from unfair competition. Bob said Ofcom do not use all the hours which members come in early it do not take their paid meal relief into account when they chalkenge Royal Mail on effiecncy.

The reality is that Ofcom employ 16 full time indivduals whose sole job is challenge Royal Mail on their efficency numbers and who have the power to put in an enforcement notice on Royal Mail achieving an efficency number. It does not help if people come in before their time but compared to losing work to Whistl and other competition it is not going to save the USO. In any case the new PDAs due this summer will allow Royal Mail to see where every delivery OPG is every 30 seconds on a route !

to be fair, if everyone done their jobs properly, they would have to go to the manager and tell him, they won't be able to complete, that is unfortunately where the trouble starts, the bullying and harrassement by managers to get the job done whatever it takes, simple fact is, we rushed around years ago on job and knock and managers think these walks are achievable on park & loop and using trolleys, going up every path, stopping at every door to flick through your mail, and dely to neighbours!!! it simply cannot be done in the timespan they allow us, good luck trying to tell posties to stand up to managers who think nothing of threatening people with the conduct code if they leave work in, its a difficult situation we face and I do not know how we resolve it.

Why do people worry they can't say your to slow without proof and to get that they would have to test the walk and they just don't want to do that as a rep that is all I say to the Dom test the walk or don't accuse people of being to slow.

In real time? With offices of over 100 staff? Plus managers having to go out on deliveries, instead of seeing where I am every 30 seconds,as well as doing the other bits that lazy DOM's dump on them, etc, etc. how is that going to work?

They won,t bother monitoring those who complete. They will use this system to enhance their bullying tactics against those who work to their contracted time.

Worth a FOI request to find out how much they cost, OFCOM hardly being a charity organisation.

On P/L me and my partner struggled to complete at least 3 times a week.
My partner lefta few weeks ago and since then I have been doing my frame only and the other on docket.
I now complete everyday so it goes to show the problem is P/L.

Anyone with half a brain would know that P&L is a slow method of delivery. It was never meant to be a fast way of delivery as in their own words RM & CWU have said that this is the case and it was to take weight off the shoulders. Problem is Royal Mail are now blaming the delivery staff for this slower method of delivery and have no interest in whether or not (which is very debatable) P& L is better health and safety wise for delivery staff.

No point since privatisation Royal Mail is no longer subject to FOI requests. In fact this what they say in response to them now:
Following the flotation of Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange, it is
no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Royal Mail was
previously subject to the Act because it was wholly owned by the
government. However, now that the government has sold some of its shares
in Royal Mail, this is no longer the case. Therefore, we are no longer
obliged to respond to requests for information under the terms of the Act.

I meant OFCOM, not RM. Hmmmm afterthought - as a bona fide shareholder I could technically challenge RM direct.
