JOHANNESBURG – The Communication Workers Union has threatened to make last year's postal strike look like a "Sunday school picnic".
The Post Office has responded, saying service disruption of such a nature could cause the company to "implode".
The South African Post Office has been plagued by slowdowns over the past few years.
The Communication Workers Union is getting ready for fresh mass action.
"At this point in time workers are currently in imbizos, in general meetings and very soon we will pronouncing our plan of action – when is the D-day of the strike. But I can tell you… already workers were in a mood to say, let’s go to the streets. But as a democratic organisation it’s important that we follow processes... It will a huge strike because of the developments in the South African Post Office,” said Clyde Mervin, president of the union.
The union has made the following demands:
- The immediate removal of the caretaker administrator, Simo Lushaba
- The appointment of a new board to be fast-tracked by Telecommunications and Postal Services Minister Siyabonga Cwele
- The immediate withdrawal of the suspension of some of its members.
- It wants all Post Office outlets which it says were illegally shut down to remain open.
- A 15 percent salary increase.
Union representatives say they'll no longer beg Post Office management to agree to workers’ demands – they'll take their concerns to the streets instead.

2 different sides of the coin.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Sounds like the CWU (SA) is more militant than the CWU (UK).
