Naturally captured next to Marx on the wall, a man who initiated decades of evil and suppression and whose philosophy led to the murder and starvation of millions.
If the CWU pays a penny to people like this, I'm out. If people want to get on the Westminster gravy-train, let 'em get a bank loan to fund it.

Wow thats a stretch - its an advert for calendars you can purchase from the Marx Memorial Library - standing next to an advert does not mean he has endorsed the politics of the seller or subjectbustedflush wrote:supersonic wrote:Apologies if this has been posted, thoughts? After all don't think Farage could be considered a supporter of Bob Crow or the RMT even though he did stand in front of a Railwaymans statue in Eastleigh for an interview

Of course if that was Nigel Farage pictured next to a picture of Hitler you'd say exactly the same, wouldn't you?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Wow thats a stretch - its an advert for calendars you can purchase from the Marx Memorial Library - standing next to an advert does not mean he has endorsed the politics of the seller or subjectbustedflush wrote:supersonic wrote:Apologies if this has been posted, thoughts? I suppose, like Jeremy Clarkson's 982 FKL number-plate, it was just 'one of those things' eh?

Best check my edit though don't bother it won't change your mind.
As for Clarkson - I signed a petition and complained to the BBC about that, and if I may be so bold, I had more reason than most that did, I was in FI in 1982.

I know (as you do!) the difference between 'incidental' and staged. And the good railwaymen didn't espouse fatal philosophies.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Best check my edit though don't bother it won't change your mind.

Anyway, I suppose it's down to the perception of the viewer, so we'll leave it at that.
As for the FKL incident, I find it hard to believe it was coincidence as Clarkson maintains, but it's possible a member of the production team procured this vehicle thinking it would be funny and he (JC) wasn't aware of it. Even so, for all their faults those 3 are intelligent and educated and it would have been near-impossible for them not to have realized the significance as soon as they paired-up with their vehicles.
All respect for the 1982 campaign. The end result lifted the populace and it was closer than many realize. The Argentines hitting the last vital supply ship with the 1000lb UK-made bomb that was dropped from too low for the altitude trigger to arm it, and scoring a direct hit. On such fine margins can outcomes be influenced. I assume you resented the cheap jingoism of the Top Gear affair when lives were sacrificed, or is there another reason why you objected? I'm sorry I used an unfortunate example like that TG episode, I had no idea.

Re: CWU and The Green Party
No I just think its wrong to make jokes in a public way about a conflict where many on both sides died. What made it worse was that a lot of the Argentinians were conscripts and didn't know where they were never mind what they were dying for. So to antagonise the Argentinain people when many of them would have had sons that died there wasn't bad taste, it was insulting to the dead of both sides, and to those that made it through.

Thanks for clarifying that, it will not be mentioned again.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:No I just think its wrong to make jokes in a public way about a conflict where many on both sides died. You are going to have to qualify such a claim - if you can't, then it didn't happen.bustedflush wrote:

Bizarre post. It's a matter of historical fact that Stalin was a genocidal maniac second only to that other piece of filth Mao in the "millions killed" league tables.

Oh,that response was completely unpredictable. Thanks for that.Tman wrote: It's a matter of historical fact that Stalin was a genocidal maniac second only to that other piece of filth Mao in the "millions killed" league tables.
But following your logic, we might as well blame the actions of Peter Sutcliffe on Jesus Christ, Ian Brady on Frederick Nietsche or Charles Manson on Paul MacCartney.
In short, you have no idea about Karl Marx other than what you've read in the Daily Telegraph, so you might be as well keeping such "bizarre" posts to yourself - especially on a Union forum.
To get back to the OP - I see no good reason, other than historical precedence, that the CWU today backs the Labour Party and not the Greens. It could be argued that the Greens are by far the more radical of the 2 parties. The Labour Party, by some http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2015/j ... f-war-play, are seen as doing a good job at supporting the existing status quo, and who's upper echelons are drawn from the same very narrow elite as the Tory Party.
Lets not forget, it was Mandelson drew up the plans for privatisation. Where's the socialism in that, the unity, the payback for political funding ?

Nope, never read the Telegraph (aren't you supposed to mention the "Daily Mail" thoughjetblack wrote:Tman wrote: It's a matter of historical fact that Stalin was a genocidal maniac second only to that other piece of filth Mao in the "millions killed" league tables. But following your logic, we might as well blame the actions of Peter Sutcliffe on Jesus Christ, Ian Brady on Frederick Nietsche or Charles Manson on Paul MacCartney.
Not at all, and I see no provable link, however, there's no doubting the actions of Stalin Mao and the rest. It's a matter of historical fact, and though you seem to wish to ignore or dismiss that, it still hold true.
Is this another one of those "I'm a socialist, therefore I see no wrong in the actions of various 20th century genocidal dictators as they were (nominally) Communist"?
Anyone with more than two brain cells laughs at the delusional "Holocaust deny-ers" as being blind Right Wing morons, so what's the difference with Left Wingers who would seek to excuse the (numerically far higher) deaths at the hands of Stalin, etc?
No difference really, as both sets fanatics seek to deny thousands/millions of eye witness reports f such tragic events.

Re: CWU and The Green Party
Aren't we the little dictator then! I see that we should be silenced, as Union members we should not criticize Marxism? Despite the fact his dialectic accepted you had to have capitalism for Marxism to exist in the first place? You speak like a true authoritarian.jetblack wrote:Oh,that response was completely unpredictable. Anyways, as for political allegiances Grommet has made it clear he sees the way forward for the Labour party as bearing less and less Union influence. The CWU should accept that the old days of socialist parties in power have long gone, and adjust their strategy accordingly.

It's bizarre that an educated adult could fail to distinguish between the legacy of Marx the man and the legacy of those who took from his theories and shaped them for their own gain.Tman wrote:Bizarre post. Was Adam Smith also to blame or Engels or Hegel?

Re: CWU and The Green Party
The old "ah yeah but what about...." riposte. Very poor.
Stalin etc described themselves as "communist" or "Marxist" (although "Leninist" "Maoist" etc are all equally interchangeable) so presumably it's safe to assume they followed the leanings, writings, thoughts etc of the Highgate charlatan.
The nonsense Mein Kampf written by that other meglomaniac Hitler has long been consigned to the dustbin of history, shame the other shite by Marx doesn't follow it. After all, Mao's Little Red Book is now merely a curio in China and no longer seen as relevant.
As the literally millions who did their best to escape, or died under the various regimes would doubtless assert, they weren't happy times for the workers or indeed anyone else.
Semantics from you so soon though?
