EVR

Post by Bigdaddy13 »

Just want some advice really, I've just had a second op on my hip (not replacement hip its muscular) after the second op the doctor has told me that this is something that is going to be an ongoing problem for life and I'm always going to have constant pain resulting in me having to live on pain killers! Im only 30 and and find it daunting having to deal with being a postman and being restricted to only doing duties that don't involve to many stairs and hills. So what are peoples advice, could i get EVR? Would i even be considered? Thanks for any advice its greatly appreciated

I'm in the same situation but it's my knee. First check about if you are covered by the equality act as then they have to make reasonable adjustments don't know about evr but they may either try to find you a suitable job to match what you can do or will push for ihr.
I'm only 34 myself so fully understand your frustration at this. Good luck

To get EVR or Early Voluntary Retirement you have to be at least 55, so you have no chance of that.

To get VR or Voluntary Redundancy realistically you need to be well up the seniority list and at 30 you’re probably not.

If you get any sort of pay off at your age it would be Ill Health Retirement With Lump sum where you would get 34 weeks pay plus a maximum of 12 weeks PILON (payment in lieu of notice).

Alternatively you may get IHR With Immediate payment of your pension (assuming section c of rm pension plan) but that would only apply if you're deemed to be unable to work in any capacity again and at 30 that would be unlikely in my opinion.
Links to all RM pension related websites are here

I can imagine, so how did you go about it? And how long was the process?
