Hi
I'm on a 30 hour contract which includes 5 days of 6 hours a day. Can someone please let me know how much breaks I'm entitled to each day?
I was led to believe it is actually a 5:30 hour day with two 15 minute breaks or is it a 5:20 day with two 20 minute breaks.
Please help

Working Time Directive is a 20 minute break which must not be taken at the start or at the end of work.
The 30 minute break is for young people between 15-18 years old.

If you work between 5 hours 1 minute and 7 hours you are entitled to 30 minutes break that is a national agreement between the CWU and Royal Mail nothing to do with working time directive, the agreement has been posted on this site.rehabron wrote:Working Time Directive is a 20 minute break which must not be taken at the start or at the end of work.

You are correct P13 in the Final Pay Award Agreement the meal breaks working over 5 hours and up to 7 hours shows a 30 minute break.P13 wrote:If you work between 5 hours 1 minute and 7 hours you are entitled to 30 minutes break that is a national agreement between the CWU and Royal Mail nothing to do with working time directive, the agreement has been posted on this site.rehabron wrote:Working Time Directive is a 20 minute break which must not be taken at the start or at the end of work.

It states that this agreement has exceeded the National Standard but is to be harmonised with the PBS for the 3 year lifetime to April 2012.
So would be grateful if someone can post the interpretation of this.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
