It happens all the time unfortunately. Saying No to doing extra on top of your duty doesn't cause problems. But when your own duty is putting you over, that's when it starts.
All you can do is follow the advice on here - Tell them you think you won't complete on time and have no interest in working over. Ask them how best to structure your day, and assure them that you'll be back at signing out time.
Basically, if they can't find someone to cover what you leave, they have to do it. Or in our case it gets left till tomorrow.

Yes. Usual thing is being overlooked for a short period (when you actually want it it is 'unavailable'), then they come running back with more requests. Some managers use the 'short hours contracts' to manipulate the work force to various degrees, play worker off against worker, it gets worse and worse as summer approaches, and then for the run up to Xmas from September the brakes are off.

Stick to your guns. You will prob then be accused of working slow at which point you ask for the duty to be tested along with your rep. They normally back off.

I did not want to do Christmas overtime so worked my hours. Dagger looks from some managers and comments from fellow workers. Alright for you etc.

Yesterday was my first day back after a weeks holiday, when i returned to the office at my finish time the DOM asks if i want any extra? No thank you i say.

Are you sure he says, it looks like youve put on weight since youve been off so the exercise would do you good.

at the very least they seem to try and make you feel guilty about it, when really its not your responsibility to extend.

It is quite a horrible feeling. I had to refuse lapsing the other day since the normal duty was going to be bang or time or slightly over and i couldn't work any later.
They kept hovering around me like my plans were suddenly going to change.

Isnt that sadly so true krussel. Managers you almost expect, but its just as likely to be idiotic postmen with ridiculous comments.Can never understand postman mentality. Thing is if its alright for me, its also alright for YOU! You are entitled to do exactly the bloody same if you want!!

Sounds like my office 80% of the staff make horrible comments about me wanting to work to time. They run round, come in early, don't have breaks and don't book pressure overtime. They are unbelievable.
