RETURN TO WORK PROCEDURE

Post by swintontillidie »

Is the return to work meeting a legal requirement? I haven't received a RTW for my last three absences and I know of others within my office that haven't received one.According to the attendance procedure I should have been issued with a stage one.Im wondering that without a return to work any absences are not being properly recorded,if at all? As the RTW is where you state reason for absence and sign to acknowledge the dates.Surely if this procedure isn't being followed any possible breaches of the attendance code can't be penalised.

It's not a legal requirement, keep your powder dry on this one and use it if a stage 3 ever arises, managers have to follow procedures to the letter if not an appeal on a stage 3 stands a very good chance of success, highlighting you DOMs mistake the now only improves his chance of getting rid of someone down the line

If you are invited to a review 1 you must mention this at that stage, do not wait to the review 3 meeting. The manager can only make a decision with all the facts and by informing him he failed in his duty to give you a return to work interview, may help you avoid a review 1 and the possibility of reaching a review 3.

Make sure you are given 3 days notice prior to the interview, if not then mention this also.

The RTW procedure is no longer done on paper it is just a 'tick box' on PSP

So when you return if the manager says 'welcome back' or 'good to see you back' then they count that as a RTW

Utter rubbish. The return to work is very important and should take place within 3 hours of start of shift. Manager needs to discuss the absence and most importantly the employees well being. Firstly despite the employee returning to work are they actually fit enough to perform all duties, ie driving (could be on medication). They also may need referring to occupational health as well. Plenty of other things they'll need to discuss as well. It's absolutely bonkers to think its a tick box exercise and this could possibly lead to an accident or even worse if they don't take place.

You misunderstood me

What I said was this no longer needs to be DOCUMENTED

I didn't say it doesn't need to happen all I said was it is now a tick box on PSP

so all saying challenge it if you get to a stage 3 - challenge how exactly if this no longer needs documenting - how can you prove a conversation never happened?

RM haven't got a clue. Seems to be a common occurrence in our office that anyone returning to work isn't acknowledged as such and ends up having pay stopped as they are still down as being off sick. Has happened to me recently and someone else this past week.

So if it's not documented then how can you be sure the correct days of absence have been logged and that Royal Mail have a record of why you were unfit for work.
