1 in 4 or 1 in 6 long weekends off
we had a union meeting yesterday to decide to work 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 long weekends off. 35 people turned up the majority were part time. people with days off, or sick or on holiday were not included. 10 voted 1in 4. 3voted 1 in 6 the majority in the room did not vote at all mainly because of bad information of what it entailed. the union rep said because 51% of the room did not vote 1 in 4 it would not count. the union and management want 1in 6 the full time staff want 1 in 4 are we being stitched up.

Re: 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 long weekends off
why does the union want 1 in 6......isn't there supposed to be 'aspirations' for every d.o. to achieve 1 in 4.?....of course its a stitch.footman wrote:we had a union meeting yesterday to decide to work 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 long weekends off.

Nothing is free. You have to "fund" those extra days off.daveyeff wrote: why does the union want 1 in 6......isn't there supposed to be 'aspirations' for every d.o. to achieve 1 in 4.?...
In the case of 1 in 4, you either have to have people who have no Saturdays off to fund those who have 1 in 4,
or you have longer days (9 day fortnight) which means longer deliveries and fewer staff.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

why does 1 in 4 mean some people have no Saturdays off?
We have 1 in 4 and we all have 1 in 4 saturdays off
We have 1 in 4 and we all have 1 in 4 saturdays off

Duty holder works every Tuesday and Wednesday with a rotating day off Mon/Thurs/Fri Sat.feduppostie wrote:why does 1 in 4 mean some people have no Saturdays off?

The floater has every Tuesday and Wednesday off and covers the days off.
This rota means the days don't need to be longer.
The effect on your DO when you move to 1 in 4 depends on the state of your DO at the change.

well this is what they are offering as a new replacement shift pattern in place of our 9 day fortnites, the days are shorter but they are keeping the delivery spans the same at 4.45......less indoor time. its bound to go tits up, but we are having a review every 6 months so they arnt bothered because they'll just pull it if it doesn't suit them.

ie we work 6 days for 3 weeks and have the fourth week off - with longer days

we've also got that shift pattern but they are taking those off us as well. 28th of this month is our last day on these shifts....we are all devastated.

Re: 1 in 4 or 1 in 6 long weekends off
I think Dave Ward publicly stated on a union dvd ( that we all were supposed to receive in the post a 2-3 years ago ) that " 1 in 4 Saturdays off were GUARANTEED , and more if required... Tell your union rep and DOM that you are not asking for something above or below board but what you where guaranteed in that agreement. If the majority want 1 in 4 Saturdays off then it should carry..Simples.
