But to put everything in the right place quickly would require a good knowledge of the order the duty is in therefore making it very difficult for someone that doesn't know the duty well. Seems like another no-brainer to me

Didn't Canada Post come up with the 2 bundles method of delivery, where you kept your sequenced mail separate from your IPS mail and merged the 2 on the doorstep?

Sounds messy but the obvious implications are...

1. A single wave of sequenced mail, bench merging wave 2 into wave 1 would be ridiculous.

2. Later starts, sequencing all available mail into a single wave would mean much later arrival times.

3. Assuming bench merging adds 10 minutes to manual prep but removes the need for sequenced prep you could lose around 30 mins per duty indoor time, that's a hell of a lot.

4. D2D? possibly the first steps towards the infamous "single sleeve" or removing it altogether and outsourcing it through a cheaper workforce...

5. Rationalising and centralising D.O.s....a bench is a bench, no need for bespoke RM2000 frames, you could in fact bench merge at the mailcentre and send out the deliveries almost pre-packed, especially if automated parcel sorting works.

6. s**t loads of full-time jobs going.

What about quality? Surely this will have an impact. Our mech mail always contains missorts and then there is redirections. Will these have to be done twice?

This is one of those crazy idea's dreamed up by people wearing suits sitting in a resourcing meeting drinking coffee and munching biscuits.

Its crazy and will never work. Can you imagine three mech trays spread on a bench with 7 lots of d2d and trying to tip 2 full packed bags.

The version I heard about was to keep the rm2000 but bundle up before the last mech run. When this arrived you would slip the letters into the bundles which is supposed to save time.

I do recall that many years ago a high ranking exec within RM could not understand why we could not deliver milk and news papers along with the letters.

LOL. Posties are dropping like flies with deliveries of 4.5 hours and upwards. Who in their right mind thinks it is sustainable to be walking for 7 hours per day 5 days per week???
