First Aid Kits in vans

Should first aid kits be mandatory in vans? I had a nasty cut a few months back after trapping my finger in a letter box which bled heavily for about 10 minutes. I had nothing to clean it up with, no plasters, bandage or anything to help stop the bleeding and the blood was pouring onto the rest of the mail and all over my clothes. Wouldn't you have thought as this is a fairly high risk job for accidents & dog bites they would at least supply first aid kits in all vans?

Firstly, you shouldn't be putting your fingers in letterboxes.
Secondly, they'd go missing in no time so you'd be back to square one.

If one OPG helped the other put a plaster on, RM would probably blame them if that person was off sick later!! I always carry a few plasters in my wallet in case I cut myself, and a bottle of anti-bacterial gunge because you never know what you will touch on gates etc

You should have gone back to the yard to get it seen to,as someone else said the kit would go missing and nobody would replace anything they used,also the way thing's are at royal mail at the minute technically everybody on P&L would have to be first aid trained.

Been doing this job for 14 years and there is no way to deliver mail without leaving it hanging out without putting your fingers through the flap.

They could easily hand them out from the key locker and then sign for them the same as you would the keys.

You can't use the first aid kit without being a first aider.......and let's face it, people use stuff and then don't order replacements (people can't even bother to put diesel in the van when it needs it).
As has been said, bring some of your own plasters and maybe some wipes and then if you get a cut you can deal with it yourself.
