deliver to neighbour

Post by osgoody1970 »

in today's courier, "no one will be forced into doing overtime they don't want to." where there are instances where a postman or woman has to go over their time, we would expect a local discussion to take place between the management and employee, to establish the best course of action!!! does anyone want to fill in the resulting conversation between manager and OPG??? answers on a postcard......!!!!

This pisses me off more than anything about Royal Mail, Pressure to work over has become so common in this job that the business just expects it and it's now up to the employee to help "establish the best course of action", Why?, the employee doesn't have the problem, the business does, why should employees face a daily grilling from management just because they want to go home on time, management should be focussing on grilling those who want to go home early.

This is a major flashpoint for B&H and the business and it has to be said the union haven't got a clue.

Spot on .... if the OPG wishes to work his hours then what is there to discuss ??? it is down to the RM manager to do what he is paid for and that is manage and if he is doing this properly then he would know from the volume of traffic that the OPG cannot compete and do something about it, I always thought contingency planing was an important part of their role and what they are paid for or are they more concerned about what impact the budget has on their bonus :cry

We had this problem over the xmas period, there was an attitude by the managers of "its xmas, you know its going to be busy, why do you only want to work your hours and not do overtime and cause us problems" Heck, even co workers made snide comments about not staying out.
Now its spilling over into all times of the year, it seems doing just your contracted hours isnt enough for RM and they will put some pressure on for you to work over when they feel its necessary.

I read that as well, you say I won't complete and I don't want any overtime thanks and the Royal Mail mafia say lets talk about this. The attempted intimidation and bullying then begins. As said there is nothing to discuss.

You were spot on as well. They are supposed to adjust the manpower according to the traffic, I.e. traffic up ,increased manpower decreased lapsing/absorption,call it what you will. Anyone seen this happen? I certainly haven't especially over the summer. It is always management by crisis and crisis by management. They are useless at planning anything. One further point, Courier is so full of drivel and propaganda , I am surprised anyone reads it. I only read the letters as they occasionally reflect how things are.

I think the inference was the reply to the letter in today's Royal Mail Propaganda publication ,sorry Courier about DTN costing time ,and what if you didn't want to work over.

I love it when I get a new LM who asks me to stay out to complete,I just politely but firmly say NO, then get the inevitable "why not?", my two word reply always ends the discussion 'COLLEAGUE SHARE'. This job can only be done with the good will of the staff, you can kick a dog only so many times before it bites your arse.It amazes me the amount of my workmates still going above and beyond for this firm when we were ALL shortchanged to the tune of £1400!! It may have been legal but morally I feel robbed by my employer so now feel no 'good will' towards them what so ever.

One of our many DIMS expects you to complete your delivery even if it takes you over. But DOES NOT expect you to them claim O/T!! Swings and roundabouts. Where they have the swings and the roundabouts have been sold off with the bikes!
Since "Methods" came in a year ago I have been cutting off most weeks from Wednesday onwards and cannot see this changing... Too much time indoors and not enough left to the actually delivery. Let alone go to the neighbours as well!

Not forgetting that "expect a local discussion to take place between the management and employee, to establish the best course of action" is what is said will happen if the neighbour says they haven't got the item - so it is the postie's fault.

And how are you supposed to know before you go out about how many time you will DTN and whether it will make you late?? Easiest solution is not to bother unless you are 100% certain you will get rid of the item at the first neighbour.
