What's the Latest on Hayes v Ward

Anyone know what's the latest on the forthcoming election : must say from an posties point of view can only see one winne and that's David Ward ! Our local reps are saying Hayes wants to stay on till he's 68 ! You sure he's not sepp platter ! Must say I think it's time for a change ???

This election will shape the future. Dave Ward has a proven track record on pay and protecting terms and conditions. He is the man to lead the union both industrially and politically going forward as who ever wins the election you can be sure workers will be attacked.

The CWU currently is too friendly with the labour party and does not punch it weight. This union must become better fighting politically and on industrial issues such as ending zero hours , two tier workforce and ensuring better representation of members in the workplace.

Billy has decided to stand for election a year before he was due he tried to call a snap election which would have been open now had the NEC not amended the election timescale which allowed for a genuine election debate.

Billy will be 68 if he wins at the term of the next GS Election and the CWU have always stated that 65 should be the end date , Derek Hodgson , Alan Tuffin , Tom Jackson and a number of other offices have all gone at 65 , why Billy wants to serve till 68 is anyones guess.

But the CWU need someone who is going to fight for the memberships future in the long run and that will only be Dave Ward. He gets my vote and support.

I think it's all a bit strange. I was told by my rep that Mr Hayes has called this election early and he doesn't need to. Why would he do that? Especially as he's coming up for retirement anyway and apparently he is already on his pension. What is the retirement age in the UCW. Is it the same as us. That Billy Ward is a bit too London for me as well. He can talk alright on the telly but is anyone else going to stand against them in the election? or is it just 2 people.

Dave Ward has it in the bag, the only ones who are going to vote are the London Mafia nobody else gives a toss. What will happen to Billy when he loses will he go back to delivering in Liverpool As for having to leave at 65 nobody needs to retire at 65 anymore, not since 2011, so the rules need to be changed. Just as a matter of interest it's hardly a snap election there's only 2 candidates and weeks before the election to prepare the manifesto - I'll vote for whoever offers to pay for their own pies.

As for the CWU being too close to the Labour party I'd add and Royal Mail. I've never seen a missive from a Joint Labour Party & CWU but the Joint statements from RM/CWU are legends in their own time.

when i watched hayes speak before the sellect commitee, regarding cherry picking and othe competitors.. hayes spoke utter nonesense, jibberish tripe, no constuction in his words... a bit like someone with dementia..

But i find dave ward more upfront in your face, talks sense... real facts hard talk.. i'd vote dave... he knows what he is talking about.. straight to the point.. strong character...
