Kicked off duty this week for someone on annual leave

On a duty this week as duty holder is on annual leave, got told today that the duty holder is coming in for rest of week and I'm being moved. I said that's not fair and anyway you can't work when on annual leave only for dim to say "we can do what we want when we are short staffed and it's operational needs". Am i within my right to tell my rep in the morning or do I just accept it and get on with it?

In our office we used to be able to fight this, but in the new way of everything, we have really got nowhere apart from writing emails complaining about OPG coming in on annual leave, I beleave its a CWU/RM agreement, but not law that says you are not to come in on annual leave.

Regarding being moved from duty, I'm always complaining about this, but as you've found out 'operational needs' is the new king of excuese, generally through lack of staff.

It's crap all round really.

No one should come in on their annual leave it's in the way forward.And they deffo shouldn't kick someone off a duty for it!

Yes they're not working for free! People often work their Wallington rest week at our office (which is allowed), nice earner if you're that way inclined

'Nut job' Unfortunately some part timers work full time on overtime week in week out, then find they need to work a day or two during annual leave to maintain their wage.

As per the government rules, you are not allowed to work whilst on annual leave, in other words, it has nothing to do with RM rules, the government set them.
Also, bare in mind, when someone does work whilst on annual leave, they are taking a week that someone else might have wanted, but couldn't because the slots were full, selfish sh***s is what I call them.

Work six days a week for five weeks then have a rest week. It's not annual leave so you are allowed to work if there's work available which there normally is.

That sounds like a bit of a Grind. You wouldn't catch me working my day off under this new regime Perhaps these guys have shorter duties than others and don't feel the strain so much!
