i dont think stopping for prayer is a legitimate reason for stopping work, maybe it can be arranged to fit this into your break time, however when accepting the job you should know your working hours. Maybe RM has something in the contract which allows such breaks for prayer, but unless they do I dont see it as a right within paid working time.

As far as I know islam is the only faith that stipulates what times of the day you should pray, however, any religious observance that has a strict timetable should allow believers to also take breaks at the times they should pray. In fact digging a little deeper, one of the reason why muslims are allowed to pray at work is because of a ruling in Williams-Drabble v Pathway Care Solutions (ET Case no. 2601718/04) in a which a Christian woman claimed discrimination because her work required her start working on Sunday's when before there was no such requirement.

Obligatory prayer is prescribed at five periods of the day. These are measured according to the movement of the sun; (i) dawn (fajr) (ii) noon (zuhr) (iii) mid afternoon (Asr) (iv) j sunset(magrib) (v) nightfall (Isha). Under certain circumstances prayers can be combined, for instance sometimes the nature of daily activities preclude prayers zuhr and Asr[10] can be combined , as can magrib and Isha. However as far as I know those prayers should where possible be taken during agreed work breaks, if the business fail to allow Muslims to pray during their breaks then they may be liable under Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003. Muslims are not getting extra breaks, or they shouldn't be, its just they may take their breaks at different times to others, as long as its agreed.

Nobody should be allowed to use work time to pray etc, It's a complete joke that this is allowed to happen, Do away with prayer rooms or whatever they use, If they want to pray during the day then get a job on nights, And who ever came up with that stupid law should be horse whipped

They don't use "Work time" to pray they use their own break time. Before you spout such offensive drivel please at least do the courtesy of reading my post above which explains it all. I agree with the horse whipping, but its bigots and fantasists they should receive it not people who protect the right of everyone whatever their gender, creed, religion or medical needs.

Then why did you put this If they want to pray during the day then get a job on nights that doesn't gel with your claim that you have seen it with your eyes. Thats an opinion that shows a lack of knowledge of the law, not an observance of incorrect managerial practices.

If the manager is allowing work time to be used for praying, and not insisting that they use their own meal reliefs (or surrender part of it) then you should put in a grievance. Muslims or anybody else shouldn't get anything extra, but they should be allowed to do what they want during their own breaks.

maybe it is, that doesnt mean the other issue shouldnt be talked about
How disruptive is the prayer time if it means someone has to go away from their work to do it when it isnt the specified break time and maybe holds up someone elses job ? Im all for it so long as it isnt disruptive, but I doubt thats possibly the case in every situation.

Well that's nice for them. In December therefore, with barely 8 hours between sunrise and dusk, they'll be doing more praying than working. Right during Christmas pressure. I say that tongue-in-cheek, obviously the prayers would be combined.
