lapsing/ threats

Hello everyone,
So the other day it was really heavy, (enough to take us beyond our finish time without lapsing) after telling the manager that i wouldn't have time for lapsing he asked if i wanted it on overtime (i couldn't as i had plans for the rest of the day)so i said no,I then got told that in future i can expect no overtime whatsoever coming my way, all because i didn't wanna work extra! surely this cant be allowed to happen? I'm assuming this is going on all over the country but really?! Do we have to take that?

I always think that when I say No to overtime but then I just think they will
Need me at some point to do overtime and will soon come crawling back. Are you in the union?

Doesn't surprise me! If you can be bothered then you can take out a grievance I suppose but it probably won't get you very far unless you have a witness to him saying that to you. Its just the little things which wind you up sometimes and that would wind me up too! Pathetic

yeah i have a witness and yes im in the union, he actually said it too a few different people as far as im aware, all it serves to do is alienate everybody into not even wanting to do anything to help! do you think a grievance would actually get me anywhere? surely it cud b seen as many different thing e.g bribery? threatening?

Grievance from yourself and others will benefit the whole unit in the long run. If none do, he will carry on. Some people can deal with being treated like this, some simply can't.

If your witnesses back you up then you could get your manager in hot water! How much hot water he gets in depends on how far you want to take it I suppose. You could go down the union route or if your really serious then you could get a solicitor but I suppose it depends how much this manager jars you off?!
Is this a common kind of attitude you get from him? If it is then it maybe worth keeping record of him. If its just a once off hissy fit then I'd probably wouldn't take it further depending on if he did actually give you overtime in the future! Maybe worth seeing how he treats you over the next couple of weeks and if he's true to his word and does refuse you overtime clearly because of what he told you then yes take him on by all means.

thanks for your reply's, yes ill simply keep a note of what he says for now on and if need be, pick him up on things! he isnt always like that constantly but lapsing changes managers attitudes towards staff ive noticed, tbh i don't think they can handle the pressure of sorting left over lapsing out! Even though that's what they are paid to do! I was actually half exoecting him to pull me aside a day or two later and realize just what he had said, but so far nothing so he can go to hell with his lapsing overtime!
