Positively in our favour I would have thought. With the UK inflation rate at 0.5% in December (as measured by the CPI) and fuel prices at a 5 year low you can imagine a 2.8% pay rise will go further than it would in previous years.

Royal Mail are allowed to review the pay rise if inflation is below 2.3%

Well the last time we had a reopener clause (2012) inflation was above the threshold and we got nothing extra so.....

I expect we'll still get 2.8% but I also expect there will be a price to pay somewhere down the line, the union has been very quiet about the latest round of redundancies so maybe that was the trade off, cold hard cash for turning a blind eye?

Well if we get anything less than 2.8% you can subtract the pay rise from 2.8% and the remaining number will be the exact amount that inflation has affected our pay rise in a negative manner. :d'oh!

I expect you are right, cynical but right, God knows what's coming down the track in exchange for this particular pay rise. Haven't they thought of enough silly ideas with lapsing/absorption/summer savings, (they didn't save much this summer though, with the amount of cut offs ! ) it is now becoming very tiresome all these cuts to benefit shareholders ,oh wait, that's me!

What happens after this pay rise? We agreed a three year pay deal with five year job protection as long as we don't have a national strike. So how can we negotiate another pay rise for 2016 2017?

Can't see any reason Royal Mail will refuse to accept, as they won't want to rock the shares prices over infighting over pay rise.

How has the union been quiet about the redundancies , there was a briefing in Nottingham of all Branchs of a joint statement which had to tackle effiecncy especially where Amazon and whistl has reduced traffic.

Then we have the of com review on the future of USO which of com told Royal Mail they had to become more efficent before they acted on competition.

Then we have the delivery roadshows in Scotland , Birmingham and London last week which explain the new revision process. Which explained the model week , tools and review.

In the next few weeks there will be meetings with unit reps on issues.

The union knows that unless we tackle efficency then the USO is at threat. That's not too say there are not areas where work is still growing and they need investment whereas others due to competition have seen 20 % reduction in work.

The problem with efficiency issues is that those who are least efficient seem to escape the net time after time and those whose efficiency has always been better is squeezed and squeezed until their eyes water.

I'd expect them to drop it so it is inline with inflation or below. That was the whole point of adding the clause to the agreement! :arrrghhh
Union what Union? Do we have a union?
