Job Not Gone Out

Hi Everyone

A job didn't go out for delivery today and i'm due to on that job tomorrow. I call it willful delay of mail yet the management call it a controlled carry over. Where do i stand on this as i'm going to be delivering 2 days mail in one day?

You follow the cutting off procedure and only work to your time, the fact there is 2 or 3 or 10 days mail to deliver is unfortunately irrelevant to what you do. You just do what you can in your hours (Unless you want ot) don't over load your bags or pouches or trolley etc

I had to smile, i've never heard it called that before
So what was wrong with the management taking it out themselves ?

This is common practice in our office. Before Christmas managers were out delivering failed duties until 4 or 5 o'clock. Now it seems they have given up and are just rolling them over to the next day, although they do make sure at least one loop gets taken out and then report only a partial failure. On Mon they failed 7 deliveries, most I've ever known. When its your day off you dread coming in the next day to double mail. I just start on time,take my break and cut off at finish time, use trolley and bring it back if need be. Make sure you follow the cutting off procedure and they can't touch you.

In the past I've been asked, "Can you work your day off tomorrow"? To which I normally reply "Go Forth and Multiply"! Then they sometimes try, "Well I'm not sure if it'll be covered tomorrow....so you might come in to 2 days mail".

To which I reply, "You fill your boots...I'll be cutting off on time and bringing back what's left"! Strange it normally gets covered OK!

You'll like this one then - over Christmas when we were hammered we were told to stop prepping mail leaving enough time to bag up and complete what we'd throw off. Apparently because all the leftover mail was still in the IPS frames or sequenced boxes and not in our frames it's not live mail!

Christmas was always run like that until recent years . We always sorted to a set time regardless of what was left over.

The problem is that the Manager has to tell someone that it's failed....If he doesn't then whose to know it never went out? There's no Independent Reporting system. In smaller DOs these Incompetent Managers are running them like their own little kingdoms. If you point out that Duty has failed they'll merely tell you they've informed their Immediate Manger...There's no obvious way to double check.

Appreciate the advice ZX but I can't see how I'd be able to manage that? I'm just nose to the grindstone trying to prep my walk.You can obviously have a look around as you're working but I don't know what's going on around the corner. We have Managers regularly prepping duties and wandering around all over the shop. At any stage they could say, "Yeah I counted all the mail left in the frame".
