Tracked notification

Had a pleasant surprise this morning - been notified by email and text from RM, that a Royal Mail tracked item I ordered will be delivered today. Despite having had tracked items delivered before, this is my first experience of RM giving advance notice of delivery as many of our competitors do - is this a new thing ?

I got that text from RM that my item would be delivered, about 4 hours after my postie had delivered it to me.

I also had another text from RM telling me that the item I had signed for had been delivered.

I bet he scanned it as delivered before he left the office because he knew you would be behind the door drooling in anticipation of it's arrival :)

ive noticed if when delivering them you have the comms on,,, on the pda the recipient gets a message there and then,,,,if its turned off they'll only get a message when finally the comms gets connected ie back at the office in the charger

I had I tracked week b4 xmas,,,,no answer at the door I did press not deivered.....moving on to try a neighbour a vehicle pulls up behind me and asks for the parcel.....he had his phone in his hand and a royal mail txt saying I`d tried to deliver.....hed left home a few mins earlier got the txt so came driving back LOL...sooo its a good idea when it works.

also had a txt meself in the office saying my tracked parcel was in and ready for delivery.....this was b4 xmas,,,,,took me ages to find the parcel there was 100s of tracked lol

I've just tracked a packet I'm expecting from DPD today.

It's on another level, first you get an email and simultaneous text, then you go online, you can see a statistic, it says 'Driver has delivered parcel number 48 your parcel is number 63', underneath that it says 'your estimated delivery time is 1435 - 1535' then there's a Google map with an icon of your house on it and an icon of the vans location which updates every five minutes, you can see the guy moving in real time.

If we ever get this technology, I'd like to see how it effects our workforce and practises.

Being realistic, we need to adapt to these methods whether we like them or not, it's a better service, but where DPD and other 'couriers' fall down is on the actual delivery which is ruled by doorstepping in its various forms or racing around leaving tons of dockets, as they are paid by the item more often than not. If we have a combination of better technology and our local knowledge we will be on the higher ground.

hope you have better luck with dpd than what i had.One of their numptys dropped my computer tower and bust it, had to wait 4 days for replacement

Seen it twincamms. Absolutely brilliant. I would suggest that their route is completely planned out. Parcels only though and about 80 drops a day. Give them 800 dp's and things may change. Having said that, if RMG let posties out at 10.00am with a 4 hour span (that was the planning in our office, but not necessarily adhered to) then we could easily adopt the same tolerances. Don't forget, that all duties should be completed as per the frame layout, so you should know roughly where you will be at any given time. A national agreement that stipulates that this is the only way to achieve completion. BUT I STAND TO BE CORRECTED ON THIS.

To be fair, human error does not mean DPD system is not very good...

It is the few people that get negative experiences that forever slags off Royal Mail - and they are often the loudest.

A bit scary though , sellers giving your email address out to the delivery company when you'd rather be anonymous!

On the downside - RM notified me 24 hours later that it had been delivered - is there a time lag on the system or are our PDA's really that bad - all the other couriers use real time notification and a text usually comes through within minutes of delivery, which is far better if you are elsewhere at the time.

I've found the PDA to work quite well. Comms must have been up...Scanned the Tracked Item outside...Guy comes out the door with his mobile..."Have you got my Parcel"? Seems a good system.

I have no problems with RM Tracked or Amazon Tracked easily delivered. Specials No Problem, because I won't DTN. Biggest Pain is RM Signed For and those random Tracked Items that need a signature. Anyone worked out what they're about? I presume they're either Expensive Items or Replacements For supposedly "Lost" parcels?

Well my PDA downloads when it's sat in the cradle. Perhaps it's a super-duper one.

Well my PDA downloads when it's sat in the cradle. Perhaps it's a super-duper one.

As does mine, often have to suspend comms because of battery issues but once back on charge in the office it downloads fine
