Us *Whalley's made a lot of progress in 2014
https://www.myroyalmail.com/news/2014/12/year-review" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In your December edition of Courier, chief operations officer Sue Whalley takes stock of progress in Operations this year and explains how we’re performing in key areas.
Sue, how are we doing on Quality of Service?
We’ve done a fantastic job on Quality of Service for the first half of the financial year. For First Class mail, we delivered 93.3% the next working day against a target of 93.0%, over the six months to 28 September 2014. We also beat our Second Class targets by a similar margin. If we maintain this level of performance for the next half of the financial year, this would be our best performance since 2006-07.
Are our first-time delivery rates improving?
Yes, they are. Since we launched our first-time delivery campaign, including the re-launch of Delivery to Neighbour, they have improved.
In terms of Tracked 24/48 products, our first-time delivery performance across the board has grown this year from a starting point of 87%, to around 90% at the start of November. When we ran our Delivery to Neighbour trial it was suggested that if we try really hard, we could reach a first-time delivery rate of 95%.
If that’s right, we are almost halfway to achieving our goal on Tracked. At some delivery offices we are already achieving this target on Tracked 24/48 but we need this everywhere. And we have to ensure we carry this through to all of our parcels, not just Tracked. This is really important.
What about our productivity?
We’re achieving our highest productivity performance for some time. But we’re still delivering in the lower end of the target range of 2-3%.
We have seen a significant improvement in matching hours to workload. This is really important. It sends a really powerful signal externally that we are taking efficiency seriously and doing everything we can to be more efficient.
These are encouraging signs but there is still more to do. We need to maintain our focus on improvement.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Usual patronising drivel ,from an overpaid/over promoted drone, someone out of touch with the real world, that the rest of us inhabit on a daily basis.
"Mail is down, mail is down "(repeat ad nauseum). That's all she ever says.
If they got rid of non jobs like hers we would all be better off.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If you changed your faith to Islam - then yes by law you would be entitled to ask for Eid off, and the other concessions. However not all muslims do get Eid off. In fact if you had carried out even a cursory search on here your question would have been answered.
You would also "get" the Christian Festivals off as well, because there is no point in just one person turning up for work when the place is closed for the break.
By the way you are aware that those of the Islamic faith who go get Eid off, have to surrender a days leave to cover it. They don't get it as a Bank Holiday like "Christians" do - is that positive discrimination for Christians. No, at least in my opinion.

Re: Us *Whalley's made a lot of progress in 2014
Women working full time still earn almost £5,000 a year less than their male colleagues, and the pay gap in some jobs is three times bigger, according to a TUC analysis of official figures.
The union said today marked Equal Pay Day – the point in the year at which women effectively stop earning because they are paid on average 15% less than men. The difference is even bigger for women working part time, who earn 35% less per hour than men working full time, so Equal Pay Day for them was on 27 August, the report said.
The figures from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2012 showed the hourly rate of pay for men was £26.54, versus £18.32 for women. They also showed that the biggest gender pay gap was among health professionals, where female staff earn £16,000 a year less than their male counterparts.
This is discrimination.
This is what should concern us as trade unionists.

Hence why I don't think its positive discrimination, even though I am an Atheist. Or are you trying to make another vague point, if so please elaborate.twincamms wrote:Unless you've forgotten, we do live and this still is a Christian country....................TrueBlueTerrier wrote:If you changed your faith to Islam - then yes by law you would be entitled to ask for Eid off, and the other concessions. I believe the majority of people declare themselves as following the Christian faith, and our laws and establishments are based on Christian Values, hence why we are labelled as a Christian country, but that doesn't stop us following the meaning of democracy and allowing people of different faiths to observe their religions.

That is because it is not a recognised statutory holiday. No it isn't.rubberbond wrote: That is because it is not a recognised statutory holiday. Discrimination is discrimination positive or negative.
Where you have a situation where one sector of society has been disadvantaged for whatever reason, then trying to alter that for the better is something that is to be applauded.
A simple example is girls and science. For years boys outperformed girls in science subjects at school, largely it was felt because they didn't have the confidence to speak out in mixed classes. So they started female only classes and they thrived.
There wasn't any reason why girls couldn't be as good as boys in those subjects they just needed a different environment.
Every time the issue of positive discrimination comes up we have the same bleating argument from the white middle class males of it not being fair.
Yes it is.

I don't know the wage of an ML3 but your point is invalid. We aren't talking about RM we are talking about society as a whole.twincamms wrote:clashcity, how can that be? I'm sure, correct me if I'm wrong that we are on a uniform wage structure.
So a male OPG earns exactly the same as a female OPG. Yes? No? An ML3 male manager earns the same as a ML3 female manager?
My wife has been able to progress her career further than me, not because she's better but because there are more opportunities and openings for women, she in fact earns considerably more than me.
In general women are paid less than their male counterparts. This needs to be challenged.
Your wife has been able to progress her career because she is better. Deal with it.
