ok question for all you PHG's up n down the country, any of you taken the job in the last couple years as a part time employee only to find no fulltime contract once started just paid on overtime daily then paid 6 hours once off, also find yourself cleaning other peoples s**t up on walks and find yourself out more than your in and unable to do your own job? nah thought not just me then

Would be surprised if anyone has taken a PHGs job in the last couple of years, as the post was abolished at least 5 years ago, maybe even more.

Phg was a grade that was done away with so no Phg's for more than 5 years though the name has stuck and those working in the locker are sometimes referred to as Phg though only now are the same grade as the rest of us

I had no choice and was told I had to go in the locker. I was P/T . Anyway to cut a long story short I was eventually made up to F/T . And yes it is true what you say that most days you don't even get the chance to complete your own 318 before your asked to do the other work of colleagues.

In the the Larger DOs I've worked I've never seen a PHG going out on a Delivery. Fair enough in a few smaller Rural DOs the PHG may have had to help out due to staff shortages.

In one particular Smaller DO he wasn't even able to do his own job...let alone anyone elses. Would you believe he couldn't even find how to order more Delivery Bags on the system FFS. And he was getting paid as much as Posties who were out delivering in all weathers!

Yep been phg long long time now doing a walk for 1hour feel like a octopus doing so many other jobs than my own no job satisfaction now

Operational Postal Grade Description

This new grade includes all work and tasks associated with the physical handling and distribution of Service Delivery products from collection, processing through to delivery including driving work. It includes the use of automated machinery and equipment and the minor maintenance of such equipment (TPM). Also covered are supporting administrative work associated with day-to-day operations (e.g. bookrooms, revenue protection) training of individuals and work on customer premises such as mailrooms, including all tasks previously recognised separately through the payment of allowances.

The new role is underpinned by a set of key principles and capabilities assessed on entry to the Business and by the appropriate resourcing arrangements through the core skills and selection areas that have been defined in the Way of Working agreement.

The introduction of the new Operational Postal Grade removes issues of demarcation between the former PMN/women and PHG grades recognising that employees, in future, are liable to undertake the fullest range of tasks for which they have been properly trained or for which they have been specifically selected through the agreed procedures.

The vast majority of the jobs covered by this grade will use core skills and will be filled as agreed on length of service/seniority, with any specialist duties being identified and covered through the objective selection criteria outlined in the Way of Working agreement.

The PHG title was abolished years ago! Dead as a dodo! Yet everyone still calls the person in the locker a PHG, and they still seem to think theyre more important than the rest of us!

You do put people in boxes a lot. Try taking people at face value, just because the senior men at your office are "brown tongues" doesn't' mean that all Senior Men or FTs everywhere else are.
