RDC and christmas tips

Post by GoingRoundTheBend »

I've been the RDC now for a year and have realised that whilst the colleagues who's duty's I cover get Christmas tips I receive none
Am I asking too much for them to share a little of what they receive or have I just realised that I work with people who only give a flying fox about no.1?
For the record if roles were reversed I would indeed give some of the tips I received to my RDC :wave

You can't do anything as you have to rely on goodwill. so if you get tips on rest day cover, don't share it back.

I used to share with my day off cover but not since we changed over to shared vans.
The pair who cover us lurch from one fk up to another. No matter how many times we make up D2D for them it's never returned. I'm sick of getting their missorts handed to me from customers when I get back and sick of having to regen the van cos they can't be bothered. They are lazy and ignorant so get nothing. If they want a share of the tips they can bloody earn it.

I used to do RDC and found it depends on the individual if they shared. Last year, 3 did and 2 didn't.

Funnily the 2 who didn't have a reputation for being all about No.1 in our office.

Tips are given because of the good work the regular posty does 5 days a week, customers like to see a regular face every day and can get suspicious or wary of a stranger handling their mail. Back in the day before floaters we used to work a six day week and "strangers" were only seen if the regular was off on leave or sick.
In my opinion most , not all but most, reserves and floaters don't a give a "flying fox" as you put it about the quality of service they offer when covering a duty.
its all down to a " its not my duty not my problem" attitude.
I certainly wouldn't give my floater a share.
Bring back the 6 day week I say.

We do 1 off every 6, I share a 1/6th with the reserves who do mine, not too many tips this year though.

Perhaps it is time to break the cycle.
Be the bigger man and extend the hand of generosity.
Maybe they have the attitude they have because of the attitude they perceive you have.
IE - They don't give a flying fox because you are a tight git.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Christmas Tips = A Real Can of Worms (for Reserves) :mad Don't think there's a happy solution...... In a perfect world maybe. :hmmmm Personally I don't work for tips. I've been covering loads of duties throughout the year, due to our disorganised management style. In previous years I've had some heated discussions with Posties whose duties I've covered, I'm sure you're familiar with the, "Mrs So and So gave you MY tip, where is it"! Type of line?

I used to collect any cards stuck to doors and hand them the Duty holder......Nowadays I don't bother. Any one comes out I tell them, "I'm not your Regular Postie, he'll be back tomorrow". Some people actually know me and say, "I know your not but here's your tip, I've already given the Regular Guy his". Which I must admit cheers me up! :Very Happy

Agree with Clash..Saddler perhaps your Relief is a Dick (I don't Know) but your not helping the situation. Why not talk to the guy? :hmmmm Some Posties get really excited arguing over a few quid and a couple bottles of plonk....Is it because they've never received tips before? I work (elsewhere) on New Years Eve and regularly clear £300 so I'm buggered if I'm going to be going toe to toe with some tight wad over a few quid. And finally don't forget the PHG/guys in the cage/callers office (again I suppose it depends how good he is) But if he does a good job bung him some of your tips.....If you've got a crap one you'll soon find out how difficult the job gets!

I always give my cover guy a share of the tips if he's been covering my round all year. I remember how shitty it was when I didn't have my own round and having to listen to everyone bragging about how much they got. I am the only one that gives him anything though which doesn't surprise me. Rm has a culture of 'every man for himself' which is probably why we are so screwed with the size of our walks these days! :no no

Always worked on 1/6 th for float and 1/12th for leave cover. Trouble these days is you can have maybe 4 or 5 people trained up to cover you and these can all be used over the course of a year. Just got to try and be sensible how you share things up.

I used to be full time and worked my day off, so I bagged all my tips. A year and a half ago I got the chance to go part-time and work a 3 day week. For me to do this, I have to cover rest days on 3 different duties. One duty holder is as good as gold and gave me a bottle of wine and £40. As for the other 2 duty holders, put it like this, I won't be moving off my rota and me being messed about so you can work your day off and you do your own duty on o/t again :thumbup
